They’d been working on a God of War GaaS game that got shut down I think. Had been hoping they would be taking the lead on the remake of the original trilogy as their next project instead.

I agree, the thing I’m most curious about is will they redesign the drive or will you be able to carry over the PS5 drive to use on a PS6? I figure the drive will have mostly the same specs and it’s not like they’ll be creating a new type of Blu-Ray so from a technical standpoint I can’t see why they’d need to try to sell another one except for naked greed reasons.

I don’t think it’s conflating as much as it is highlighting how most of the discourse and coverage of gaming online is from a comparatively small subset of the fandom who have interests which are not usually representative of the wider public. If they sell 100m PS5s and Switches, probably 90m of those sales go to people who aren’t interested in discourse about AAA dev cycles, they play the annual COD / FIFA / Madden or stick to Fortnite.

It’s not unique to gaming though, mo...

Reading the Reddit threads from people who have actually bought this, and report the accuracy as absolutely horrible (particularly as the calibration is done in 16:9 while the games play at 4:3 which then stretches to fit the screen), you’d thing it’s a completely different device compared to those people who got given one for free to review like this one.

It’s a shame as I loved the idea, particularly if someone could fine a way to hack it so Time Crisis 2 and the House of...

I’m with you, 6-10 hours is pretty much my sweet spot, and with the amount I game now being a lot less than when I was a kid, that still equals probably 2-3 weeks of gameplay.

I’m amazed that this is now a 5 year old game, this gen feels like it’s barely just got going.

Good review, but mostly struck that we take it as read that a game that has a stated length of “8-12 hours (main story), 15-20 hours (story + side content and trophies)” is talked about as a short game.

I was sorta hoping it would be a bit more like Outlast rather than the combat stuff they are showing off. Still interested as I love Hellraiser, and I want to support any horror ip not going the asymmetric multiplayer game model. However, slightly less interested than I was before seeing this gameplay slice, thinking of Condemned from the 360 as a comp?

If it is a success then I imagine those small companies are now huge companies, but so rare it will happen. What I don’t get is artistically for the development team, once they launch a live service game and it beats the odds to become successful, those devs now are purely focused on how to get more from their players, maintain engagement and find a way to slot in brand partnerships. Have to imagine they would hope the success would mean they have more freedom in future projects, instead they...

I can’t work out why they haven’t even done the cheap option of just porting the PS3 era HD Trilogy Collection to PS4, would surely be a licence to print money. While I’d love a proper remaster, especially to add HDR as that would really pop visually with the shadow / light detail, I would settle for being able to play on a modern system (I have a PS3 but the system itself is so sluggish, and the Sixaxis controller so poor, I would always choose a zippy modern port with a PS5 controller).

Live service games aren’t for me, though I don’t hate on anyone who decides to try to develop one of these games. However, I really wish some developers would realise not all the games need to be live service.

While I loved the original Splinter Cell trilogy, and Double Agent was good too (everything after that less so), 20 years later it’s bad that Ubisoft hasn’t been able to produce a remake or decent sequel, but I’m even more confused that no other developer has been abl...

The last mainline Resistance game came out in 2011, Killzone as a PS4 Launch title in 2013, MAG was 2010. These games are 15 years old, and while good at the time, they aren’t some magic bullet of franchise recognition, most people under 25 have little or no memory or love of those games. Yes the ideas are good, but if they want to go down that route they should begin a new franchise instead.

Perhaps the bigger question, with an even easier answer, is why don’t studios lik...

The story of this games development does seem to be a complete disaster, and it’s insane it cost £200m. I found myself enjoying the game though. I got it for quite cheap a few weeks after launch, and liking 3rd person cover shooters I thought it worth a try.

I didn’t hate it, sure it has some huge bugs, the combat is functional but bafflingly limited (for example, no melee and can’t blind shoot from cover), some of the mini games are utterly bizarre (move the sticks to...

I’m really hoping that the device can be hacked or sideloaded onto as House of the Dead, Ghost Squad and some other arcade stuff (Terminator 2, Star Wars & Virtual Cop are personal favourites) would really make the whole thing pretty much a must have.

That looks fun, big jump in price though between basic and premium models though, wonder how long it will take for this to get hacked so other games like HOTD and hopefully the Star Wars or Terminator 2 Arcade Games can get loaded in.

Of all the things to worry about, this feels like the lowest ebb. I’d perhaps be more concerned about how they can find enough variety in the combat mechanics to stop a 10-12 hour game from becoming a bit samey, even if they get that main combat gameplay loop to be incredibly satisfying.

Obviously Wolverines claws will remain the main combat method, but thinking about how God of War benefited from (and differentiated itself from predecessor’s) by increased verticality in co...

That’s a stretch to call it news. There’s a PS4 version and the PS4 supports Remote Play to the Vita. Not sure if this should be other news that GOW Ragnarok is playable on the Vita, so is Horizon Forbidden West

Loved both of these, but given that Rogue City was already put as a PS+ game I am skeptical of how many would want a collection package but nice for collectors. Fingers crossed that this release coincides with a NG+ update for Unfinished Business, I wasn’t really paying attention to the Robocop quiz and hadn’t realised it had a trophy attached and that’s the only thing separating me from the platinum.

Mediocre is a bit harsh. It’s fair to say that they are not revolutionary or reinventing the third person cover shooter / stealth, but their actual mechanics of being a 3rd person cover shooter are pretty much best in class. Beneath any opinions about story, I don’t think any game before or since has quite nailed the movement flexibility and gun play satisfaction of TLOU2 when you get into a intense fight, and Uncharted 4 is a riot with the shooting incredibly satisfying.

Can confirm that the single player campaign is fully on disk, but a download for the multiplayer modes is required.

I would’ve liked to see a trilogy / quadrilogy collection too, but assuming that would mean needing to try to create a hybrid multiplayer mode to bring all together in one package which would be tricky. I don’t think it’s bad value for £30 myself

I get not promoting it like a new game, but feel that a Sony PC release or Nintendo remasters get more of a push. Feel I saw more publicity and preview for Tony Hawk 3&4 remaster recently than I did Gears.

With no reviews or previews and no real press, it really made me consider not buying it thinking the developers didn’t have much faith in what they’d done and it was gonna be a mess (it’s not btw, was just my fear).
