For sure there’s more consistency about using features on console, though not universal (see patchy 3rd party use of PS5 Haptic Feedback).

Don’t get me wrong, there seem to be some console type things which are now present on PC like the single launcher, user interface and achievements from Steam / Epic etc but I don’t think that has taken away from the PC experience.

For me at least some of the console experience has been lost by becoming more PC like a...

I think there is a very good point underlying here that as consoles have adopted more and more PC features (updates, installs, user selected visual modes and features) then what has made consoles unique and easier to use than a PC has sort of been lost.

For me, the trade off of consoles compared to PC was that I was paying maybe more for the hardware and software based upon a certain level of convenience that the console just worked, I could drop in a game and just play it...

Great news, so happy to be getting more of this game which to me was one of my highlights of 2023 / early 2024 but hoping this springboards into a full sequel for launch in 2026

This looks so much fun, after Terminator Resistance as well it’s good to see that in games, unlike movies, the Terminator license is still producing quality

We are almost 5 years into PS5 so hardly a new change, it was a tenner for Horizon, GTA5, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Last of Us 2, Uncharted 4 if you’d bought them on PS4. The difference here is if you’ve bought Days Gone then it’s the same, but if you’ve haven’t bought it and got a licence to play it as long as you are subscribed to PS Plus, you can’t pay a tenner to upgrade a license you don’t own to a PS5 version.

When Resident Evil 7 got a PS5 native version, i...

First people complain about the number of remakes and remasters saying they don’t want them and won’t buy it, then they complain they won’t get it for free.

It was clear in the video when they said it was a £10 upgrade for those who bought the game. Is exactly the same as what happened with FF7 Retrograde for those who got it on PS4 in Plus

Kinda bizarre to hear so many people criticising Sony for a lack of good or variety of games, at the same time they are winning awards for 3 games they released last year across sports, platformers and a online military shooter. Seems pretty diverse to me and for a publisher to be releasing 1-2 games per quarter, with 3 of them awards worthy, I don’t think they’re doing too bad of a job.

It wasn’t a game I enjoyed or stuck with but I do agree given Sony Bend live service game being scrapped is this is a test of the market to see if there is more interest in the game now than there was in 2018.

What’s odd I feel is that most of Sonys previous remasters were linked to getting them updated and modernised for a PC release so it made sense to update the console version at the same time (Uncharted, TLOU, Spider-Man, Until Dawn, Ghosts of Tsushima, Death Stranding...

Doesn’t everyone who makes a game make a series of pitches of what they could make next, including sequels to stuff from before as a pretty standard part of the process. In the same way as many directors will talk about going to pitch 5 or 10 ideas to a studio hoping one of their ideas matches up with what the studio is looking to do. I’m sure at some point, the guys that made that rubbish Gollum game pitched a sequel before they got shut down.

I think PS6 will still have a disk drive, but I think the model of it being an addon for those that want it as in the PS5 Slim / Pro will be the default. More interesting will be, will the current PS5 detachable drive be carried over and used in PS6 or will they look to redesign it. I can’t imagine they can do too much more with the drives design so maybe the same drive, with either an enclosure / shell / cover to connect to the PS6 could be the solution.

That’s a terrible idea, and the biggest reason is people’s mythology of Silent Hills is so out of proportion to what anyone, including Kojima, could ever hope to achieve, it would prove to be a disappointment.

Don’t try to do Silent Hills, but by all means realise there is still an appetite for the Silent Hill brand so another game could be successful, and there would be a market for a more abstract type of Silent Hill game without needing to conform to the traditions of t...

That’s cool, but gotta admit I’d take their hands off for a Gears of War collection. I still occasionally look at cheap Xbox one consoles and get tempted just to play it again. Yes it was 20 years ago but I loved the first one in the short time I had a 360.

Surely they must be planning or working on a remaster of all the games because I’m told they aren’t available on Steam either which is odd (I was briefly tempted by a Steam Deck instead of a Xbox thinking I could play it...

Can we address how odd it is for the idea of hated by critics seems to work at anything below 80%? 3 of these 10 have a critics score of 70 or higher and only 1 has a score below 50.

I would say anything below 40 would be bad / hated, 40-59 is ok but missable, 60-69 is functionally average, 70-79 is good, 80-89 is very good, 90-94 is outstanding GOTY candidate, 95+ is genre defining

I ended up buying GTA5 on 2 platforms over 10 years so feel free to release GTA6 at whatever price you want, many will buy it, I will wait patiently for the inevitable deep discount 6 months later. I don’t play the online multiplayer and after 10+ years for a new single player instalment I can wait another few months

It didn’t win GOTY at the game awards, it lost out to God of War for that award but did win the most awards of any game in that show.

Glad they’ll be fine, but maybe this is a chance of instead of resetting them on a 7 year development cycle from the very start, maybe taking some lessons from the success of AstroBot, give them an engine like Decima, a smaller AA level budget (£50m rather than £200m) and let them make a game with a 2.5 year dev cycle to be of an equivalent scale of something like Miles Morales, Returnal or even something of a level like A Plague Tale.

Last of Us, Uncharted, God o...

I don’t mind remakes and remasters, classic movies get multiple remasters for different formats, resolutions and even different cuts in different releases (Criterion, Arrow etc). It’s not just Sony stuff (who I think get unfairly singled out for something that they are by no means the only offender), I can’t recall how many times I’ve bought Super Mario Bros 1-3 & World, Metal Gear Solid or even for Halo I must be on my 3rd copy.

It’s a choice, but I object to being mad...

I’m saddened to hear of job losses, but glad the studios will now have an opportunity to do something else rather than release, bomb and be shut like Firewalk. Glad Sony are being introspective and realising sunk cost fallacy, there isn’t enough desire and demand for huge numbers of those types of multiplayer games, especially as the biggest ones are now coming up on a decade of operations so the market for them is as likely to be as big as it will ever be. Better to call it a day and go bac...

I remember playing Life is Strange years ago, loved it as an episodic game done right with a clever mechanic at a time when Telltale had become stale (where’s Wolf Among Us 2?). Honestly until this moment, I had no idea it had a sequel never mind multiple sequels.

So perhaps that’s the problem
