Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Orange Box are all definately above average and solid contenders for game of the year.

I am a long time Miyamoto fan and I do think that Super Mario Galaxy should be up for game of the year also. But, sometimes people's opinions differ.

I think the main reason the high percentage of people in this thread disagree with the nominees is bc they can all only be played on the Xbox 360. Kind of sad actually.

probably a realistic estimate Segamer. And who has taken your bubbles? You have all of the sytems and people still attack you. People should give you your bubble back.

The funny thing is people don't seem to understand that just bc Microsoft doesn't "own" Bungie anymore doesn't mean that Bungie will be making games for other consoles. Most likely it will be just like Sony's relationship with Insomniac or Naughty Dog.

And if MGS really wanted to obtain exclusive rights to the Mass Effect sequels all they would have to do is pony up the money to EA. There was an article posted a few days ago that 50% of EA's revenue was made on 360 ...

I was referring to the main games in the series, not the spinoffs. There have been spinoffs that were not the greatest.

a Super Mario game that hasn't been anything but quality. The only one that I thought was kind of strange was Super Mario 2 for the original NES, but I still enjoyed it. I am glad that Nintendo is doing well these days bc I would hate to see it if Shigeru Miyamoto wasn't part of the gaming industry anymore.

Without Atari gaming wouldn't be what it is today. They were the ones that started it all. I am glad to see them get some recognition.

It is easy to forget the great companies that were involved in the pioneering of the games industry. Back them Microsoft and Sony weren't even a blip on the gaming radar.

I agree that the Cerebral Bore is probably the coolest weapon ever to be seen in a FPS. The bow and arrow from Turok was also neat.

I think that the Covenant Beam Rifle from the Halo series should be on some of these lists though.

The original Legend of Zelda was the first of it's kind and in my eyes is still awesome.

And there is no doubt that Super Mario Bros has influenced most platformers there are today. GTA3 is what popularized the the sandbox style gameplay. FF3 is one of the best in the series. Same goes for RE4. Halo 2 also brought online "console" gaming to life. It is still being played by hundreds of thousands of people online today. Same goes for WOW. First of its kind to bec...

and fair comparison. The games are totally different though. COD4 has a very realistic approach to the artwork and also the weapons. While Halo 3 is more Sci-fi and has unrealistic and even alien type weapons.

One thing that is most likely though is that Halo 3 will be played online well after COD4 is no longer being played and forgotten. There are still avid players of Halo 2 that play online. Halo online is one aspect of the series that I have yet to see topped.

to see that Mass Effect made the list. That is my most anticipated game for this year. Bioware hasn't let me down yet. The original KOTOR is still one of my favorites

I am also looking forward to Crysis but I have to buy a new graphics card so that is going to be a pretty expensive game.

how anyone can harp on Sega or the Dreamcast. Sega was one of the industries pioneers as well as Nintendo. Dreamcast was one of my favorite systems of all time.

And by the way past History has nothing to do with who will be on top this console generation. You do know that Nintendo was king of consoles long before the PS1 was even being developed. Nintendo Wii is selling well every month.

who wins the format war. These consumers are guaranteed to buy HD movies. So the attach rate of movies per player sold is very high. And ultimately price will win out. At a $99 dollar price consumers are willing to invest in the format as suggested by the interview in the article. Most likely even at at sub-$200 price range. Regular upscaling DVD players are in these ranges. One would be foolish to buy a "regular" DVD player when an HD DVD player is the same price and can pla...

It isn't a big industry secret that the 360 doesn't sell well in Japan. But Microsoft has done a good job of securing a lot of Eastern themed type games that are exclusive to 360 or at least timed. Trusty Bell, Ace Combat 6, Beautiful Katamari. They have even obtained a lot of previously PS brand titles such as Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. Even Square is showing support now with The Last Remnant and Tri-Ace with Infinite Undiscovery.

Overall both the 360 and the PS3 re...

I have always thought the TG-16 was a good system. It had a lot of really great 2D shooters. I always wanted the Turbo-CD bc Hudson released this awesome Smup called Gates of Thunder back in the day.

Not to mention TG-16 was the first console to release a version of Street Fighter. It came out on CD.

There is also a follow up to the system called SuperGrafx, but it was only released in Japan. Only 6 games came out for it and then the system was scrapped.

for the HD DVD camp. Not to mention that I know Best Buy was selling the A-3 in replacement of the A-2 when A-2 supplies had run out. Nobody really knows how many A-3s were sold on top of the A-2s.

At $99 an HD DVD player is a steal. A lot of regular DVD-9 upscaling players sell around that price point. Not to mention a good HDTV can deinterlace a 1080i signal and replicate it in 1080P with minimal loses.

If HD DVD can keep up these kind of sales throughout ...

has spiked 360 sales in more than just the US. Halo seems to be big in most of the markets except for Japan.

I also read in other articles that console and software pricing is outrageous in Australia. Some games upwards of $100 dollars, or some inflated number.

for any console. Right when consoles hit the store shelf the technology is outdated by the PC market. After 5 years it is "massively" outdated.

Over the years games producers will get more efficient with the consoles but it will never be enough to keep up with how fast technology advances in the PC market. The only reason why Sony is still supporting the PS2 is bc it is a cash cow. Money made on PS2 sales can cover the losses on the PS3. Every company that releas...

is actually a good measure for a console. Anything longer than that and the technology is "massively" outdated. Considering when the consoles hit the shelves they are already outdated by PCs.

I also play games on PC's and it is nice to be able to upgrade. Since all games are made on PC first as the consoles age after a few years, the console games really start to look bad in comparison.

It is true that over the years that games producers will get b...

I think it is really neat to see all of the Lightguns for the NES as well as the R.O.B. Robots. Not to mention the Sega Dreamcast and that huge library of Dreamcast games. A real rarity in that collection is the NEC Turbo Duo. I have the original TG-16, but not the Duo.
