I liked it much more than expected.
Anarchy Reigns is a much more complex and varied game but the lag pays a heavy toll. The multiplayer of Ascension keeps things simple and it works a lot better as an online game.

What was on par with GOW3 was the lighting, animations and quality of character models. And about scale I thing the first Lord of Shadow nailed it pretty nicely, even better than the third game of God of War that was lacking in that regard (bosses aside)
I can't imagine why someone wouldn't see this as a Metal Gear (either Ground Heroes or a new one)

Yes, the first DS game was very good, the first one to properly revive the SOTN spirit (edit: actually, it was its prequel on GBA who did that). Sadly every game after that was worst in one sense or another.
Igarashi's formula was good but Iga himself was not able to make it evolve.
I played not all but a whole deal of the Castlevania series and Lords of Shadow is still the best thing that happened to the franchise since SOTN.
The metroidvania formula was stale and the 3d attempts were nothing but a joke.
Handing the game to Platinum was the best move by Konami in decades.
And they know it (even if they don't want to admit it)
It's not expensive for a new console but one can't help thinking that it is overpriced when the tech is basically the same of the PS3 and 360.
