They didn't think they'd get enough money for the massive part when they started the Kickstarter, the scope has grown since then.
The developers have used the acronym "mmo" to describe Star Citizen several times since the Kickstarter.
Games on PC should be stable at 100+ FPS, lower than a 100 can be acceptable but not ideal. G-sync will help leverage this in return of input-lag though.

Wouldn't surprise me if the reason it's being delayed is because of these "local" promotions though.
Licensing, voice actors and recognition of the material.
I don't mind getting everything subbed not knowing about everything they pump out.
But there's still the licensing bit and Sega's fear that without enough recognition they won't earn enough money on it.
Felt like someone was holding the player's hand to make sure everything went without a hitch all the way through.
