i'd agree with that at the moment, but that's because it's largely 360 enthusiasts that have gone with Kinect (i do know it's sold well to other newer gamers too)
the problem lies in how bigger percentage of gamers will want Kinect only games and won't touch anything else. if that percentage gets greater than the investment to make hardcore games, then the industry could be in trouble. with MOVE too.
devs could make a killing with Wii li...
i wouldn't go as far as to say i hope they fail. i'm just hopeful that both Sony and MS can attract hardcore players too. i think MOVE has the better chance simply because you can play traditional hardcore games with it, but the long term problem still stands: if devs can make cheap trash sell, they will and lots of it.
the bottom line is that both companies made mistakes. be honest, do you think that the 360 would have been so successful if MS had put in HD-DVD (making the 360 more expensive) and had the media totally against them? under the circumstances, the PS3 at a higher price, with the media attacking them at every opportunity and the reviews being so harsh, the fact that there is only a 4.5 million difference is quite incredible
it seems to me that for this argument to stand you have to ignore all the things that PSN and PS+ have to offer that LIVE doesn't.
i'm wondering how many games this new demographic will buy per year. we all know the gripes that devs have had with Nintendo. i really hope that Kinect (and MOVE) don't spawn a generation of people that only buy 2 or 3 games a year. this could mean a further dumbing down of the industry. it took the Xbox and the PS2 to lift video games from the toy market, so lets hope that the success of Wii, MOVE and Kinect (combined) don't take us back there
even official dubs are sometimes terrible. lets hope the fans don't just get granny, grandad and the guy next door to voice the main parts... everything crossed that this turns out well, but i'm not sure i've got enough fingers
that's not why it will feel more open IMO. i doubt it would make for gripping gameplay if you could just stroll endlessly through sand... don't you agree. i would imagine it will feel more open because there will be many more routes for you to take before you reach the next event point.
Best, don't get drawn into the medias agenda. the whole replayability nonsense is born out of the forced necessity for online play. open world games are not the best vehicle for great story telling and set pieces. we need both genres
in games like GTA, you have to go to set points to trigger events/missions, and from that point the mission is on rails. many people i know have played GTA to death and haven't even touched the missions. this is stupid. all they seem int...
all this scrutiny and nit-picking by the media can only lead to great things in the future. no other company gets this amount of negative attention and no other company is in the position to shut the critics up. the three advantages that Sony have right now are Blu-ray, HDD in every machine and free online. only Sony seem interested in leveraging the extra power of Cell/RSX at the moment, but devs with egos will HAVE to put up or shut up at some point in the future...
it will...
indeed. this is getting childish
ok, so we all know that the PS3 has more exclusives... but can we please stop this nonsense of putting games down on the 360 because they are Kinect games. basically, PS3 fanboys would put MS down for not supporting Kinect while at the same time they want to put MS down for supporting it. with this in mind, it's quite fair for 360 owners to put down Sony for supporting MOVE
lol... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! please don't
Balt, i actually think you have something there... ii predicted sand way back because it seemed the natural progression from snow physics. i'm guessing Lava next :)
i don't think you are quite understanding here. he's talking about PSN itself, games sold are put under the games division profits. only things like virtual goods in HOME and such can be calculated in with PSN
4cough, you may take a few crumbs of joy from the less than perfect reviews... the same reviews that expected more of GT5 than any game in gaming industry, just so they could withdraw a point or two, but to those who have been lucky enough to have actually played the game, it comes over as rather juvenile
i absolutely adored LBP1 and i adore LBP2, but can we stop with the crazy superlatives with every level that's posted up? i've seen much much better than this. all it does is make PS3 fans look desperate and there's no need for it. LBP2 is nothing less than a revolution and it's due to hit soon, so lets be balanced eh
oh i don't know... wouldn't it be fantastic to get Uncharted 1 and 2 on one Blu-ray Disk about 3 months before Uncharted 3? not everyone has played these games. it would be a great way for them to be encouraged to jump on the Uncharted train (bargains are always good)
in fact, thinking about it, MM could easily put LBP1 on the same disk as LBP2. the engines are compatible and they could use LBP2s engine to run LBP1. i'm sure that would sell more copies
...
yeah, a few people on other forums have been reporting that. like i said though, this is a beta and 'reporting' problems is the reason it's there.
lol... what have i started here?
that's irrelevant here.
