Yes. In fact, I did. I still have my Saturn collection from that time. I didnt miss out though. At the time, I had family working in the gaming industry, and had access to all the playstation games. My friends had the n64, but we only played mario kart, mario 64, zelda, smash, and golden eye. And the wresling games. My hard earned cash went to my Saturn though.
As I said, if you had access to import games, as I did, the library for the Saturn was greatly improved. Stateside didnt get a quarter of what was released in japan. Princess crown, firepro saturn, the neo geo ports, the best versions of the capcom fighting and beatem ups, radiant silvergun, along with many other shooters and games in general that didnt come here. Yeah, the selection was weak stateside, but I would take guardian heroes and panzer rpg over what playstation and nintendo were p...
Saturn was the best, if you had access to an import game store. The best 2d games were on the Saturn all day. Ps1 had some great games, but they were all butt ugly. Polygons were just trash back then. N64 had maybe 10 good games, but was mostly trash. This is from a game perspective, as we all know how sales went.
That's cool. I really dont like spreading my money over multiple systems. It was easier when I was younger, but now I've got to be smarter with my money. I did love the vita though, and still have a few games to buy before I finish my collection.
Not surprised. Most gamers didnt have a dreamcast or were old enough to appreciate it at the time. I backed it, because I imported the original back in late 1999 or early 2000. I loved the Saturn and dreamcast at the time, and loved getting import games. So I have some nostalgic feelings for the game.
I bought it out of curiosity for the vita. I thought it was terrible on many levels, from the fighting, to balance, to character selection. However, I also hate smash brothers, and this being a clone didnt help.
Underrated? Not for me. People hyping the mediocre single player campaign to the less than stellar multiplayer maps and titan nerfs. The first one felt more satisfying as a multiplayer, even though no campaign hurt it for me.
I mean, you could make the same argument about animal crossing. It's the same type of game, but it got rated high 9s. But, nintendo, right? Theres other "boring" games that rate high also. Different folks, huh?
Not a big deal for them. They are trying to get in an emerging marketplace on the ground floor. You cant have success if you dont try. And in this case, fail. They will continue or try again, as there is too much money in gaming for them to ignore.
Pricing plays into longevity of games for me. It's harder to buy a short game for 60, vs. A 100 hour epic. However, since many open world and RPGs are artificially elongated with time wasting quests and things to do, that 100 hours could be whittled down. 20- 30 hours is a sweet spot for me. After that, I get bored. I wait until sales, so I feel a long game or short game doesnt play too big a role for me.
I have a good collection spanning back from the genesis. I didnt keep my original atari or nes, but find that I dont need it in my collection. My only advice is that you collect what you like, and dont get obsessed getting every system. But, if you have the disposable income, then do what you want.
