there's three reasons that i've purchased this bundle; mgs4, backwards compatibility, and dualshock 3. ever since sony announced that they are planning to discontinue having backwards compatibility in any future model, the demand for this bundle has gone up.
sure ms is milking its cash cow, it just makes good business sense. besides, halo is to microsoft what mario bros is to nintendo. so many so called fans are worried that another game will bring down this franchise, but if you read the halo novels you'd realize the halo universe is vast and many executable game plots could come from it.
the death knell has not only tolled for hd dvd, but also for any hope that we as gamers will ever see a reasonably priced console ever again. has everyone forgotten the outrage that was public opinion when MS announced the 360 at $299 and $399? or when Sony revealed its pricing for the ps3 at $499 and $599? now with blu ray's victory Sony will claim that their original pricing was completely justified. what do you think the price point for the ps4 will be? or the next xbox? from now on, anyon...
T3 and Bladerunner have had problems on blu ray.

thanks for an intelligent post amidst all the fanboy ignorance.
the article doesn't do a very good job of stating it, but the hd dvd add-on is selling well for an add-on at that price. the only other add-on sold anywhere near the price range of the hd dvd add-on, that sold well was the sega cd. most the people that frequent this site are probably too young to have ever played it, but even the sega cd didn't enjoy the success the hd dvd add-on is having. traditionally, add-ons don't sell very well.
sony's problem is they have an identity crisis. even square's president has pointed it out, is the ps3 about movies or games? when the ps3 first launched i remember reading a story that said devs needed to sell at least 500,000 copies to recover development costs before they would see any profit. how can any developer expect to do that when they've got to launch their AAA title against special BOGO sales in an ongoing format war that is competing for the same audience? i call it the blu ray e...
i'm nuetral in this war since i intend to purchase the samsung dual player, but as a consumer, i think both sides owe us some explainations. someone, possibly both sides, have to be playing with the numbers. how can blu ray boast having 2.7 million players in NA compared to hd dvd's 750,000 and only lead 2:1? one week blu is leading 10:1, another week its 7:1, but then i see 1.38:1!!? somethings not right.
a lot of people aren't going to like this but many more will. i think the calibration issues will probably be dealt with via updates. some people are assuming that this device is meant to take the place of a regular exercise program when it's not. this device is meant to enhance/supplement one's physical exercise routine. for someone that doesn't exercise at all, maybe this is intended to get them off the couch and interested in bettering their health. once it no longer meets their needs, may...
actually, sony in a joint venture with pioneer, developed blu ray. go check it out, it's all on wiki. anyway, sure blu ray has out-performed all of HD DVD's big releases, with the ps3 being a blu ray player, you'd have to be a fool to not expect it to. regardless, these numbers still mean nothing. the vast majority of people are still watching movies on DVD9, something like 96-97%. until high def media reaches the level around 45-51% of the optical media market, these numbers don't matter. al...
these sales figures are meaningless. it's the same old song and dance week after week and month after month. "Blu Ray is beating HD DVD, HD DVD is dead", but guess what, HD DVD is still here. the only purpose these numbers serve is to help some people justify their purchase in this high def format war. lets put this in perspective, high def media only accounts for about 3-4% of optical media. that tells me that this war is only in the opening stages. considering that hdm only accoun...
are you really that scared of the wii? have you not seen the sales trends? the wii is dominating the industry because its reaching out to gamers who have been left behind by console makers who have been focusing too much on the hardcore. i'm referring to the people that you call "noobs" or "stupid". these so called "casual gamers" are in fact gamers that became intimidated by the increasing complexity of the controller layout. these "noobs" or "stu...
honestly, i haven't played anything this amazing, as far as platformers go, since mario 64. buy it, play it, love it!!!!!!!!!!
nintendo is breaking records with there little white box as well as winning new converts. i have a wii and a 360 and they both get equal play time. my girlfriends family loves the thing and whenever anyone comes over and they see it in the entertainment stand, they always want to play it. although it may not be the most hardcore piece of gaming equipment ever made, the wii has an appeal that the ps3 and 360 don't have. its different. while casual gamers may not purchase as many games as your ...
these sales figures are meaningless. the only purpose they serve is to help some people justify their purchase in this high def format war. lets put this in perspective, high def media only accounts for about 3-4% of optical media. that tells me that this war is only in the opening stages. considering that hdm only accounts for such a small percentage of the market, there's no way toshiba will be throwing in the towel anytime soon. it will ultimately come down to the consumer to decide. even ...
they are buying it cause its a cheap blu ray player. they're not buying games cause they're watching blu ray movies.
honestly, i don't care. that's how business works. why the 18 month contract, probably because this war will be over by then and a contract won't be needed any longer. its my opinion and i expect to get tons of disagrees, but this is how i think this is all gonna shake out.
the $99 sale of the A2 was a research study to see how the consumer market would respond to a high def player priced in that range with that feature set. based on the results, i wouldn't be surprised if tos...
1) Blu-Ray movies consistently rank higher on movie reviews than the same HD-DVD version for picture quality. The higher bit-rate makes a difference there.
actually movies released in both formats score the same or higher on HD DVD. don't believe it, check out highdefdigest.com or the dvd tab on ign sometime.
2) Audio. Blu-Ray has the bit-rate and capactity for true lossless surround sound audio and has the capacity for future audio formats that include vertical ...
toshiba didn't put the A2 or the A3 on clearance. the MSRP was and is now $199. walmart and a few other retailers engaged in a "limited-time only" sale of said players. that's it plain and simple. the data from this sale as well as data from the sale of disneys offerings during this week were not included in this analisys as so stated by neilson. blu ray is doing fine, and hd dvd is doing better than it was. both are getting smoked by dvd. this war is really just beginning. there wo...
instead of spending all that money on another console, why don't you just slap a bigger hard drive in your current ps3 if you need more space? newegg.com has 320gig hard drives for a little over $100.
