You can't read the message, you just know you've gotten one from your brother. You have to quit the dam game, read the message to play the game you were already playing, REload the game, and then go to an in-game buddy list that access your Friends list from PS3 memory and hook up. (Even then you can't message, you can just join whatever game he's playing).

If need be, just give me in-game Friends and Music. I'll be fine with that.
If I can see when people log-in and log-out, and if I can see when I receive a message in-game, then there's surely some way of expanding that existing "feature" and letting me respond without exitting a game.
Messaging is a great feature for a console, but if you can't respond to messages WHILE gaming then the message feature is more like email instead of IM (chat).
While many people woulden't bother having two consoles, almost every gamer has a PC. I played the original UT and Unreal on the PC and still managed to own a Dreamcast, PS1, and PS2.

FF7 cut-scenes were an absolute treat and one of the reasons why Playstation 1 exploded on the scene. (and the reason it took 4 discs)
RE2 cut-scenes were breathtaking.
FFX cut-scenes were treated as a reward later in the game you could replay.
Most gamers appreciate CGI eye candy.
It's good that you jumped in early. Take advantage of that. You will start to see people do things you didn't think were possible in a FPS.

If you want to play UT3 on a great high-end gaming machine, buy the PS3 version (or invest hundreds more into a new PC and buy the PC version)
