40GB PS3, Heavenly Sword/(edit->)Ratchet&C lank, Spider-Man 3, 2 USB ports, no card reader, Wi-Fi (due to PSP connectivity), "Euro" backward compatibility (now ~90%), black trim: $399-$449.
Oh yeah: Firmware 2.0.
I wonder if it's a media center, possibly along the lines of a LocationFree TV/AppleTV/TiVO unit. I'll hold off on that LocationFree TV until I find out, though. :)
While both are public companies, and must at least appear to care about profit, this generation is the dirtiest war and I suspect they really only care about beating each other. The profits will follow (supposedly).
The difference is that MS still has a chip on its shoulder and has money to bleed in its war to usurp Sony. To a degree it has already done so, but with Sony they are in for a long, long hard battle. Sony is always more focused on the long-term, while MS is more ...
Aww!
I thought you were going to say "My, My, My, My...MITCHELL!
(+bub for a month to the first person to catch that one.)
Again, I plead with the N4G powers-that-be to create an Opinion channel so we can shovel this sort of thing out of the regular "news".
We can still trash it, praise it, or--heaven forbid--actually debate it, but a piece like this is an op-ed/blogertorial that needs to be clearly categorized as such.
Regardless, because it is better written and better organized than a lot of the crapinions that have made the front page in the past, I approve it. Let the...
Profit? Undoubtedly. But when we see the total of the game's almost unprecedented promotional budget, the total profit might surprise us.
MS certainly did what they had to do, and threw enough money at the game to ensure it's success. Sony will do the same for Killzone 2, though on a smaller scale. That franchise has nowhere near the broad appeal of Halo+Xbox (it's *the* defining franchise for the XBOX brand), despite how anxious we PS owners are to see the final result. ...
They certainly didn't send a PS3.
The swag they sent was mostly par for the course, but including a 360 Halo edition was way over the top.
I want that duffel bag, though!
While it's been rumoured to be a timed-exclusive, nothing has officially been announced.
Regardless, 360 owners will have the first crack at this game, and it'll be great.
Hopefully when they get some other new games to test with it (eg MGS4 demo, which vibrated the demo controllers on different sides), we'll find out if the positional rumble made it to the final production models.
I think they should put the demo on PSN for $9.99, but include a full copy of ZOE3. ;)
Looking very sweet. 360 fans who's never played the previous games in the series are in for a treat.
By numerous reports, the prototype DS3 controllers had positional rumble (directional rumble/TouchSense/etc), so don't worry.
Don't forget that "TouchSense" is the name Immersion has been using since the last-generation rumble we're all familiar with.
The last bit of news where an out-of-touch PR rep said "Oh yeah, it's the same ol' rumble as before!" really hasn't clarified anything. PR reps are notoriously ignorant of the technologies they...
Grow up.
No, they weren't bragging about it. They've always been careful to note that it was a possibility, but not a confirmed feature.
"lay off the sugar!"
...and lay on the Draino!
Timesplitters level-editor says "HAI!".
Great job! Even accounting for a post-release rebound, I suspect sales will break the 5M unit barrier before Xmas.
They fail to specify that the hardware "lead" is only in stand-alone units sold. HD DVD is so far behind in total players when the millions of PS3s are included. Like it or not, the PS3 *is* a Blu-ray player, and it *is* one of the best ones available at this time.
At this stage in the game, the failure to account for total hardware numbers in a BR vs HDVD article is inexcusable.
Name a Junior High that's managed something of that quality on that large of a scale. Do it now, or STFU.
