@Humanatplay
You hit the nail on the head. People are overlooking that fact that it was Activision that started the DLC proliferation last gen with Call of Duty Map packs. It was Microsoft that then used it as leverage for their system.
It is still Activision that's pushing the Destiny DLC, although this time it is Sony using it as leverage for their system.
Bottom line - the publisher is selling us DLC and making us fight over it. We are all so c...
Dude you forget who signs those Call of Duty exclusivity deals with Microsoft. Yep, Activision.
It's not personal, it's just business.
You have 'Console Exclusive' games, which will also be released on PC.
Then you have 'Timed Console Exclusives', which mean the game will release on rival consoles after the exclusivity period runs out.
Then you have 'Exclusive' games, which means the game is only going to be released on the specific platform.
Who needs gameplay footage? It's The Last of Us. It's Remastered. Its 60fps. It's all the DLC.
Naughty Dog would have had my money if they just released a straight PS4 port of the GOTY edition. :D
Wait what!? PS4 gamers get codes a week before xboxone gamers. Man no wonder they're going crazy! In any case, I'm sure both sides are going to love the game either way. I'm just glad I get to play the beta at all. Beta or no Beta, I had this game pre-ordered way back, it's just icing on the cake that I get an early hands-on of the game.
The Hype train commeth.
Yeah, not really. Inquisition will be big when it releases, as there will be no direct RPG competition against it. But when the Witcher 3 releases, that's going to take things to a whole new level.
The xboxone is not so "well rounded" anymore, now that it has been 'diskinected'!
Loved the article for it's clear headedness and balanced approach.
I guess some hardcore xbox fanboys really are the immature entitled whinny little adolescents that the stereotype suggests.
Lets hope those same fanboys cry as loudly over their Call of Duty exclusive DLC and how much they want that to come to playstation platforms simultaneously. Oh yeah and while they're at it, I hope they also petition Insomniac and threaten them with boycotts over ...
The franchise will last 10 years easily. How long has the Halo franchise lasted? Heck How long has the Mario franchise lasted? Or GT, or GTA. There are many franchises that have lasted well over 20 years even. No reason why Destiny can't last well over 10 years.
You are right, it's a 10 year franchise deal that hey signed with Activision. The $500million budget covers the 10 year deal as well. This mean that they have budgeted for 2 sequels and expansion DLC.
There's nothing wrong with people being excited about a "good" game. All that matters is that it is fun to play. Destiny is fun to play, and that is why people are excited about it. It doesn't have to be mega-super-revolutionary-groun d-destroying for people to be excited about it.
It's just because TLOU is a very high profile release, and there have been endless articles about the game.
But yeah, you don't see people complaining about the Halo Master Chief Collection... strange that...
Man, I've never heard the fanboys cry so hard
It's a more powerful console at a cheaper price.
Wake me when it's F2P...
I'm just speculating here. I honestly have no idea why they reversed their policy. I was just thinking along business models that's all.
Probably has something to do with policies relating to ID@xbox. Either that or they figured out a better way to get more cash from independent devs looking to use the system.
At the end of the day, the bottom line is profitability. If it's not going to be as profitiable for the business as Microsoft initially thought, then they'd naturally scrap the idea. Microsoft are generally more risk averse that Sony and Nintendo.
I'm just concerned that dev resources will be diverted where they can be used to make new PS4 games. I'm sure an Uncharted 1-3 PS4 bundle would sell well, but those resources could be put to use making TLOU 2 or some other new IP.
If I have to choose, I'd rather got for TLOU2 over an Uncharted 1-3 PS4 bundle.
@Jeff
I think you have misunderstood the difference between a Beta and a Demo!
