this game looks very awesome.
i loved payne and i like the sound of Alan wake's tv series type narrative + survival horror feel. then there's the lush open world.
not a single western preview hell even article(apart from maybe the edge feature|) of this game since 06 has been worth reading.
the last bit of the article irritates the hell out of me, considering how much squeenix have already said they're reshaping what "final fantasy" means.

it may look like gta but this game is definitely moving in a new direction. In terms of the gun fights, dodging police, hand-to-hand combat, everything's getting overhauled.
plus the gta experience has never worsened, or ever felt tired.

this game reeks of non-squeenix ps2 era jrpg. There were many many non-squeenix jrpgs on ps2 that were good, and this game could be really good. BUt i think microsoft are gonna have to keep looking elsewhere for an "FF killer". Which is what Hironbau sakaguchi kept calling lost odyssey sigh.

Read the ign preview. The way they're writing this game sounds so awesome. it's exactly how i always think games should be written.
Instead of making it feel as long as a movie. They're making it feel more like a tv series. With the game format this makes perfect sense.

the only thing i thing slightly meh about this (still a way from release)
is the animations. The bit with the women dancing and the guy trying to chase i think niko out of his apartment looked stiff; the latter to the point it looked kinda cartoony.
its sad to see a game as beautiful as drake's fortune and wonder what gta iv couldda been like...alas.

it's just that the idea of a single game being looked at to inspire dramatic sales all alone can't work at certain moments. If mgs4 had come out this year at some point i think it wouldda done a gears, but coming out next year it'll just contribute to big ps3 sales, along with kz2, ff, and gta
it depends what "significant flaws" are, what type of game it is, etc. For how the devs hyped the game it definitely has siginificant flaws, but still isn't a bad game when you put aside what was promised.
i'm expecting mgs4 to have a few flaws here and there. I can assume it
isn't going to revolutionise gaming (in terms of sheer gameplay) i see games like Heavy rain (devs did indigo prophecy) actually revolutionizing how we see games.

but dude in 08, everyone (whether the like to admit it or not)knows the current gaming landscape is going to change . It won't be as easy to criticize the ps3 with it's big exclusives out.

i'm not completely against another uncharted but instead of making another jak why not make another adventure game. It'd be cool to have a few gta sized cities to run around.
