Jaffe revealed his subconcious gender bias when, thinking that Laurent was a female, he said Fischer's was trying to be "coy, cute" etc. If he knew Laurent was a man, would he think the same thing? lol What an idiot.

Yet another fool in the games industry with foot-in-mouth disease. He gained a lot of good will by making an incredibly successful game but he ought to keep his opinions to himself or risk further embarrasment.

People forgot that one of the most technically impressive games of the previous generation was on the game cube ... star wars rogue squadron. It had dynamic lighting, bump-mapping, massive polycounts (for the time) and great textures.

The one thing the gamecube/wii hardware is really good at is multiple texturing and this game seems to take good advantage of that to simulate many of the effects we see one other systems. It approximates per-pixel lighting by layering and blendin...

The Xenon has, theoretically, 6 times the vertex processing capability of the RSX as long as the game does not need any pixels.

Go read about unified shaders then stop making a fool of yourself.

If a unified shader is used for a vertex operations then you're cutting into pixel operations. It's a balancing act.

Because RSX has dedicated pixel shaders (and powerful one at that) pixel operations are never diminished by increasing the polycount. What's mor...

Because UE3 is not suited to games with graphical variety.

To make UE3 work properly, the artists must work within very tight constraints for the following:

Polygon count for characters
Texture variety
Bump/Normal Map variety
Color variety
Light sources

If the artists do not take into account these restrictions, the engine will output crappy looking graphics. Games like Gears look good because of good artists who can cleverly bal...

One has much better graphics, audio and immersion while the other has a much better frame-rate. KZ2 frame-rate is like Gears or Halo while COD4 is like R&C. It's a tradeoff. If you prefer framerate then pick COD4 if you prefer graphics, audio and immersion then pick KZ2. If i liked FPS I'd get both. I don't like FPS games.

It's no surprise that the poor fools who bought into Microsoft/Toshiba's hype and ended up backing an inferior technology are now crying over spilt milk.

They all got "played" by Microsoft yet they still remain loyal. It's good to see old fashioned loyalty (to gigantic comapanies who don't give a crap about their supporters) is still alive and well. After all, the rest of us need something to mock to feel better about ourselves.

So how is it game over?

Having said that, I think they made some stupid mistakes in the design of the PSP. They went for performance over form factor and both the DS and Wii are proof that form factor trumps performance.

Of course, these mega-manufacturers don't listen to small guys like me but that's just the reality of it. Sony has a tech culture and so they always want to have bleeding edge products whether or not that's what consumers are willing and able to pa...

People always expect every PS3 game to look like Uncharted and that's just not fair. Sure, technically, Uncharted is the most advanced console game ever made, but that's also why it's not fair to expect all games to have that level of technical accomplishment. Why?

1) Budget: Uncharted had a big budget
2) Scope: Uncharted does not need to support 60 player online and 8 player(!) co-op.
3) Time: Uncharted took a long time to produce and it shows. Most games don't h...

All games must have cheap thrills ... it's a bare minimum to qualify as entertainment. However, few games aspire to be more than that. MGS4 aspires to be nothing less than a modern day War and Peace. A grand vision, sumptuously realized, and, if you are willing to suspend your disbelief, a heady attempt at touching on every aspect of human existence. In comparison, a game like gears is an overpriced porn-mag.

Games like MGS4, Shadow of the Colossus, even Okami, and a few othe...

The simple fact is that every review is bought or sold on a bidding system. The bigger the game, the more the magazines can ask for a good review. Bigger magazines can ask for more money than smaller magazines. EGM simply did not get the payoff they asked for on this particular game. It's just business as usual in the gaming world.

DJ, the XBox360 hardware automatically maxes itself out because of the unified shader design.

Maxing out hardware is not about how fast you make it run but how efficiently you use it. Because of the unified architecture, the Xbox360 hardware has already peaked in efficiency. Graphics wont get noticably better unless developers come up with a new way to trick the eye that doesnt require more processing power. until then, it's basically about making clever trade-offs.

Once again Toshiba is trying to fool consumers by marketing unconvert players (which it already sells) as true high-definition. Pathetic.

No upconvert algorithm on the planet can make 480P look as good as 1080P on a 1080P TV. You cannot break the laws of reality. 480P has 20% of the detail of 1080P. No chip can magically add the missing 80% of detail.

Without the shiny plastic characters it's very easy to see how crappy the unreal engine really is. The lighting, shadows, effects, are all below par for this gen. These fools need to add some shiny helmets and shoulder guards if they want shooter customers to like the graphics.

Draw-distance: You can see more detail farther away in the original

Why the trade-off?

Basically, it seems as though the reason they downgraded environment geometry and ...

Kojima admitted they aren't where they could be in terms of engine development. The reason GT5 can run as fast and as beautifully is because of extensive use of CELL to reduce the load on the GPU. There are very few games that do this well. MGS4 does not, for example, take advantage of the CELL to improve textures and resolution. As of today, Uncharted is still the most graphically advanced console game. Textures, geometry, lighting, are all superior to anything else. Having said that, ...

It's simply a matter of cost and availability. It's obvious that people prefer Blu-Ray to DVD, just as its obvious that people prefer Mercedes Benz to Kia. It's just that not everyone can afford it. Now that component costs are lower and the specifications are more complete the prices can come down. Then everyone will start snapping them up.

They held off on dropping the prices because they wanted to make sure they got maximum mileage out of 1) the early adopters who happily...
