Ground breaking AI
Unprecedented physics (even the smoke has physics)
Exceptionally innovative rendering technology

In contrast ... Modern Warfare 2 and Left4Dead 2 are just the same old thing we've been playing for years and years.

Oh ... and what about Demon's Soul? It's the most innovative game of the year.

Far more.

The AI is ground-breaking. The physics are unprecedented. The graphics are simply on another plane.

What do Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 do that have not been done a million times before?

We all know how "innovative" L4D2 and COD:MW2 were. Surely video-game politics would never have anything to do with these kinds of lists.

Right?

Madden10 ... you're right except I wouldnt say "retarded" as much as lazy and stupid.

Who are they trying to convince? Themselves, the investors, or the general public?

Funniest "news" item I've seen in a while.

It would be really disappointing if this is they're giving us on the PC.

Apart from the average textures, the lighting and shadows are just bad. In a slow moving game like this it should be pretty easy to get real-time dynamic lighting and shadows. Most of the so-called "lights" have no effect on anything. Either they aren't actual light sources or environmental lighting and shadows are mostly baked and static.

The character animation is last gen. No do...

Excuses for charging for stuff that comes free with other games ... like 500 cars.

I love the excuse given by Turn10 themselves for charging people for DLC.

"It takes a lot of money to model each car."

lol

The 400 cars, various tracks, all the game code, marketing, testing and other productions cost, the cost of printing 2 DVDs, and the DVD packaging can be covered by $60!

Yet they have to charge $60 to cover the cost ...

The 360 version doesnt have as many smooth transitions between light and dark and less definition in shadowed and lit areas. This could be for a number of reasons including the way the images were captured.

Either way it's an extremely ugly game and should not be taken as a reflection of either machine's capabilties.

He just hated George Bush style policies. We definitely don't have to "wonder" where that would take us. We've lived it and our kids and grand kids will continue to pay for it.

Anyways ... stupid law. Censorship is never the answer.

Forza 3 actually has a pretty decent physics model. The cars finally have some weight to them and respond fairly quickly to input. They also fixed some of the serious errors in the tracks of Forza 1 & 2.

It's fair to say that Forza 3 is the first exclusive sim on the Xbox/Xbox360 platform. It's not perfect, they still have some work to do, like fixing the issues mentioned in the article and also things like the borked force feedback, but it's good enough for most.

helped make the game look smoother even with frame-rate fluctuations.

The visuals in MGS4 are still astounding. It seems as if they developed completely different rendering systems for different parts of the game. Some of the scenes are simply breath-taking.

a great way to hide the lack of HDR. It also has other benefits.

Samsung TV's crush blacks as well. When you see a Sony and Samsung side by side you'll notice that the Samsung appears to have more contrast even when you're comparing identical panels (Samsung and Sony are often made in the same factory). However, when you look closely at the image you'll notice that things that are grey or a dark color on the Sony are completely blacked out on the Samsung. So Samsung sacrifice...

Developers have demonstrated this in tests on Beyond3d.

Frankly, it's disappointing that they haven't refined the graphics. Given the leap we saw from Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 2, one would expect that after all these years we'd see a similar improvement in COD.

Then again, sometimes people don't notice improvements. Ratchet, another 60fps game, has made massive improvements (mostly in terms of on-screen action, alpha blending, etc...) but received little or no cred...

It's hard to find a 360 game without frame-rate problems.

Forza 3 is one of the few exceptions but it sacrificed visuals to have a good frame-rate.

ps.
Whoever disagreed must think that Gears 1 & 2 have spectacular frame-rates and that Forza 3 is the pinnacle of console graphics. Sorry buddy, frame-rate and tech analysis on these games have say no to both. Try again.

that they still aren't taking advantage of the PS3. The level of detail is simply not up to par. Apart from the bizarre gamma difference, the PS3 version appears to have a little more detail here and there (wall textures, ice-picks handles, screws on the ice-picks). However, it's not consistent and probably due the screenshots not being exact.

Having said that they have a clever lighting engine that uses some really wise short-cuts that takes a trained eye to spot.

Just like the PS2 and it's Vector Units, the Cell processor and it's SPUs make it possible to create games like Ratchet at 60fps.

I can't imagine how awesome a 30fps Ratchet will look. Double the polygons, textures, shaders, and pretty much double everything!!!

Dude, seriously, even at $50 a year for live they are paying way more for the 360 than Wii or PS3.

Plus PS3's online multi-player is much more reliable and has less lag because of the dedicated servers (100% FREE) while Live, something they force you to pay for, is actually just P2P!!!

5928d ago 4 agree9 disagreeView comment

$99 360 Arcade with $100/yr for Live would be profitable and provide lots of sales and profits for Microsoft's struggling Xbox division.

Even today, a lot of 360 owners only buy Live month-to-month so they pay close to $100/yr anyway.

I'm with everyone else on this. GaffyH, Mnicolas, Chubear and Raztad I've giving you guys bubbles. You all speak the truth.

Digital Foundry articles always get tons of hits and comments on N4G regardless of the title.

@Shadowflare: If this not being on the front page was only due to the supposedly boring title and backlinks then how do you explain the rubbish articles that no one's reading or commenting on that have been on the front page all day?
