Why? Because you can trade it in at Gamestop or sell it on Ebay to somebody when you do not want the movie or game again. You can not do this with digitally downloaded game or movie.

There is an escape clause for Paramount...and Universal just has to go blu...they will since warner is not blu.....Money is money and universal will make more money going blu.... You might actually see universal go blu before June 1, 2008...
So now they got to get back on...9 million PS3s is a lot of bluray players...HD-DVD could only muster up 1 million...Sony sold 1.2 million PS3s in 5 weeks!

People still want to have the DVD or Bluray disc in their collection. Remember on xbox live if you start to watch the movie it will be gone from your collection in 24 to 48 hours...if you do not watch it it will stay on your harddrive till you start to watch it for 14 to 15 days.
You still have to wait for it to download...and it is in 720p max res...no 1080p native, no 7.1 sound, no dolby HD...no next gen sound...just 5.1 dolby digital...which is still good. This is today tech...
They will in the next year...and since bluray supports 100 GB discs..(soon) we will see some awesome encodes not even possible on HDDVD.

Since you can get a 120GB 2.5 inch sata drive for around $60-80 now. Remember you can use any 2.5 inch SATA drive in all PS3 models and all PS3 models for sell today have wifi and bluray. All this cost extra on all Xbox 360 models.
Most people do not have their internet connection wired directly into their gamming console...they use a wireless network. Wifi should have been built into all xbox 360 models.
The 40 GB PS3 sits right between the Xbox 360 elite ($449)...
And bluray is now the standard HD media..
HDDVD is dead
Bluray will be like DVD in about 2 years...everybody will have a bluray player in 2 to 3 years...Digital Distribution will never dominate but only be an option..most people do not even have internet connection, how are they gonna download a HD movie? Microsoft can not even get people to buy Vista let alone get people to spend money for movies that they will not own. Netflix and Apple will kill microsoft in digital distribution...Sony is comming this year too...and maybe Sony will form a digit...
Universal and Paramount will have to switch to bluray just to make money in the HD format.

DVDs will be around for a while...but bluray will take over in 2 years...digital distribution will not be viable will 5 to 10 years from now...by then bluray discs will be up to 200 GBs...they will be able to encode at the max bit rate and be able to put everything into the movie.
DVDs are old tech...all game machines will be bluray based in the next generation even the wii 2.

I have both and i never, ever watch a DVD on the xbox 360 because the picture quality sucks. On the PS3...any dvd will upscale to 1080p and the video is so awesome. This has been know for a long time. The Xbots just don't what you to know about it.
