I wholeheartedly disagree with the sentiment of this article. Also, how can Nintendo be the new Apple? Who is the old Apple? Isn't Apple still Apple?
I was wondering what happened to this game. Too bad.
In what universe does the 360 have "largest install base outside of Japan". Every viable gaming system aside from the PS3 has a larger install base outside of Japan. By your rationale they should be making it for the PS2 and Wii instead - not to mention the PSP and DS - all 4 of which have much larger install bases than the 360 in every market.
Considering that the 360 version will be finished well after that PS3 version is released in Japan and given just how insanely popular the Final Fantasy series is there, wouldn't you think that Japanese 360 owners who don't have a PS3 (assuming that any of those exist) are more likely to buy a PS3 and play on day one than wait for months and months?
I think the PS2 outsells it by a significant margin almost all of the time. The only time I know of that the 360 sold more units was the week that Blue Dragon came out.
Miyamoto just makes me sad these days.
You're exactly right. In some respects it seems like the industry has continued to progress in one direction and Nintendo has stayed in the same place. The function of the Wii in the marketplace is much more similar to the NES than what anyone else is doing. It's a toy. What's sad is that the people who grew up on the NES have done just that -- grown up. We are increasingly less content with the same old from Nintendo, and we feel like Nintendo doesn't care about us anymore.
On ...
It doesn't get more hardcore than Animal Crossing right?
Speaking of Animal Crossing - did anyone else think it looked exactly the same as the Gamecube version? We sure did at my house.
I agree. I was thinking: either this guy sucks at drums or that software doesn't work very well. I'm guessing it's the latter since they probably hired a professional drummer.
Now that I've played the Ultimate Ninja storm demo I can say that it's visuals and fighting mechanics absolutely crush the Ubisoft Naruto games.
Moderator dogpile!! :)
I never thought that the original dashboard was particularly well designed - particularly from a usability standpoint. They have been tinkering with it here and there and but none of the updates have been significant improvements. This new one, on the other hand, actually looks to be even less user friendly, but I'll reserve final judgement until I try it out.
It's sort of a catch 22. If they did buy them they certainly wouldn't want them making games for other platforms - this would undoubtedly cause the stock to suffer which would make the investment a poor one.
The thing is I don't really think they need to. They have the largest internal studios in the world and I think it's better to put that capital into making great 1st party exclusives.
Square already said that they are making FFXIII for the PS3 exclusively in Japan initially then for the 360 - sounds like it will be ported from the PS3 to the 360 and not the other way around.
Meh, I've got plenty of new games to play this Fall.
I really don't think this is a big deal at all. It will probably move just as many PS3s as it would have, and it will probably move hardly and 360s. It's still PS3 exclusive in Japan, and it sounded like the 360 version may not even come out at the same time as the PS3 version in North America and Europe. Add that to Versus remaining exclusive and I don't think Microsoft should be making such a big deal about it - I guess they just want the headline.
I don't think the localized versions of Final Fantasy ever come out at the same time as the Japanese version. If they did it would be more like penalizing the Japanese gamers - making them wait for localization into other languages. It would be cool if they could release simultaneously - and it would certainly be possible, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for Square to do it.
Do you really think anyone in Japan would buy it for the 360? There aren't even very many gamer with 360s there at all.
Because the technology in the iPhone is so old? That's probably why everyone wants one - because they've seen it before. ;)
