What's ironic about it? If you primarily play on a PC, you know how awful the Windows Store is. Most of us are more than happy to give them our money. For a competent product. Putting games on a service like Steam achieves just that.
No it wasn't. The battle system was taken from DnD rules and adapted to a video game. FF7 is just the evolution of that idea from the first FF. This 'technical limitations' argument is ignorant.
Persona 5 and Dragon Quest 11 would disagree with your uneducated assessment.
Yep. The people who built this franchise are the ones SE is ignoring. It's being dumbed down for the masses. How's that working out for Star Wars and Game of Thrones.
Cuz you're a moron.
No "panache" to the combat? I'd readily disagree. While the beginning is highly basic, it becomes brilliant by mid-game and the bosses (especially optional ones) by end game really make you use different tactics and think- well, unless you just google it. *spoiler* Even as a seasoned RPG vet when I first played it, that damn Yunalesca fight kicked my ass. Really, it'd be awesome to have another title based in this battle system.
Haste. Haste is the most powerful spell. It'll make any fight easier (until you get to some crazy endgame optional bosses). Man, I wish I could relive X for the first time again. Hell, all FF, 1-10 the first time. Have fun!
Why??? I don't care for Souls-like games, but millions of others do. They've created their own genre, the games sell well and there's still demand. Why 'fix' what ain't broken?
Right on the money.
Hell yes.
Final Fantasy 6 is #4 ya moron.
The writer never mentions Dragon Quest 11. Yes, that's a full-on AAA JRPG, but damn was it good. I couldn't stand FF15 after 10 hours, but with DQ11 I never wanted to put it down. SE needs to go back to what made it (Square and FF) incredibly popular in the first place. Turn-based battles, lots of content, great story and lovable characters, something the FF series has missed for a long time and its "lesser" offerings have in spades.
Just finishing up DQ11 and yeah, it's got that magic of old JRPGs. I really wish SE would take FF back to its roots. 15 didn't feel like anything other than a cheap copy of WRPGs. So disappointing.
Right on the money. I just recently played 9 again for the first time in 15 years. The story is disjointed (yes, even more-so than 7/8). Amarant is dull. The combat is terrible compared to nearly all previous entries. Everything feels like a slog. Don't get me wrong. I still think it's a really good game. It still has great moments and some great characters (Vivi especially), but it's my least favorite from 4-10.
And you're also completely on point with 9 fans....
Turn-based baby! I much prefer the methodic, strategic element it provides that can't be replicated in ARPG. BUT, the combat still has to move fast. Too many TB games have had slooow combat animations or pauses between actions and it just drives me nuts.
Anyways, both can be awesome when done right, but given the choice? It's turn-based.
You're right. It was so overly simple and boring. It's the only Final Fantasy I've never finished (including spin-offs and unreleased in NA games). Combat was just atrocious.
Just reached chapter 10. I initially wasn't too thrilled with the game, but like the first one, it gets more and more enjoyable as the story develops and battles complicate. And for those that say it's too much like the original, what's wrong with that??? I'm glad it is. Too many IPs start off great then for whatever inane reason completely change what worked and made it so good originally. There's just enough variety with grenadiers and enemies, while not allowing sc...
You're part of the problem.
How sad, what a turd of a game. Nothing "Final Fantasy" about it.
You folks get it. It's these little things that make the game so memorable and unique.
