Wow that's way off base. People on Windows 10 PCs will buy from the Windows Store. People on the console will buy from the Xbox Store(I think this will eventually come to the Windows 10 PCs).

I don't remember praying for anything other than my tax return so I can buy another Xbox One for the bedroom (maybe Wii U for the kids) and an Elite Controller. I have tons of games, get tons of free games, Xbox Live has its issues at time but for the most part I can play and enjoy myself, the Microsoft exclusives look great and fit my needs, and the Windows 10 cross buy stuff is just icing on the cake. Heck I'm even considering upgrading my old rig.

Neither EA or Ubisoft offer all their games on Steam. At best they might provide a origin or Uplay link on Steam, but their own storefronts are still successful. Green on Gaming is successful. So is BATTLE.NET.
The idea you need to put your games on Steam to be successful is ludicrous. Major publishers do not need STEAM.

Microsoft isn't phasing out hardware in the near future.
Microsoft is a devices, services, and cloud business.
On the devices part they create inspirational products like the Surface and then 3rd parties "copy' and create their own versions. I could see this happening in the near future:
1) Microsoft launches Xbox PC/Console Hybrid
2) Microsoft sells licenses to different vendors to create their own custom Xbox hardware ...
