The 360 sold more hardware and many more times the software than the PS3. In fact it's still more popular than PS3.
Could also be:
All new Xbox Ones come with USB C connector and option to buy external GPU. Trade up program offered.
or
Xbox One S with integrated new GPU. Trade up also offered.
They could make a ton of money on the 2 Xbox Skus and the external GPU.
Developers code Xbox games to scale on Xbox One (original) all the way up to 4K PCs. UWP and DX12 makes it happen as they'd all be sharing the same code.
@Griever
Who specifically said you'd be buying a console every 2 years? Phil didn't say it. He basically said he was interested in hardware refreshes and he loved the idea of backwards and forward compatibility. But did he specifically say people would need to buy a new Xbox every 2 years?
NO. People can still play on their current Xbox One albeit at lower settings. This is called scaling. PCs have been doing it for decades.
Did he me...
Or a larger audience playing Xbox games is great for the platform.
And yet these games you speak of still aren't on PS4.
They lost the batte but definitely not the war. PC cross play, cross buy, hardware refreshes, universal app platform are all pretty much nuclear bombs.
Prove it.
Okay but you would argue to get a PS4 and PS+?
At least with Gold I can play those 48 games per year on my X1 and all of those games will work on my next Xbox console. PS4 users have to subscribe to NOW just to play PS3 games or buy the remastered edition assuming there is one. What's the value in that? There is plenty of value for me. My back catalog is loaded.
Live costs $35 on Xbox One...deals always come plus you get 48 games per year (2 X1 games, 2 BC X360 games). Games with Gold isn't offered on PC.
@G20WLY They've been trying to figure out a way to merge Xbox/Windows for over a decade. I am trying to find the pictures but there was a discussion during the early stages of 360 development that the system would be sort of a hybrid PC/console and that Microsoft would license the tech to various OEMs. Then they tried GWFL with Vista but didn't commit completely with it. Then as recent as the Xbox One they licensed tech with Dell. Microsoft has also been extremely focused on unifying ...
Sony better hope it's hot air but I don't think Microsoft is being funny. They are very serious about this and it makes a ton of sense.
It's worked fine for decades.
PS fan logic - "Now that I play Xbox games on Win10 PC I will buy a $1000+ rig to play these games despite the fact I could just buy an X1 for $300 and play the same games at a reduced entry cost."
Not really. This was in the plan long before PS4.
You won't need one but if you want a cheap entry into Xbox games for $300 or less with games and a controller out the door than it would be wise to get an Xbox especially if your on a budget. In addition to that, if the rumors are true you might be able to upgrade your Xbox One at some time. If you have hundreds to a thousand dollars to blow then getting a gaming rig might be the best choice. In that case, why buy a console period?
@The_Infected
If that was the case why would Satya sign off on another XBOX PC/console hybrid with upgrade cycles? You make zero sense and would be wise to keep your trolling comments to yourself.
By the way you obviously know very little about Satya. He isn't a "service" guy or whatever that is. His background is cloud and mobile. But he he has transformed Microsoft into a devices (Surface, Band, Xbox, Hololens), services (Office 365, XBL), an...
It's only bad to a select group who never liked Xbox to begin with.
The only people it's bad for is PS gamers. Xbox will leave PlayStation in the dust with every new iteration. The statements on here are outlandish, foolish and misguided. Xbox is here to stay. It's transcending consoles and breaking the old paradigm of 7-8 year cycles.
The Surface and Band sell millions every year.
Microsoft didn't make much on your purchase of the console so who cares what you do? I'm asking a serious question. Who cares? You are still buying Xbox games. The Xbox One hardware will still be bought.
