Considering Shenmue was a Dreamcast game, then an Xbox game then everyone's game. It only makes sense that all gamers get to play it if they want to.
Going down the kick-starter route is only a good idea if it is indeed multiplatform. If it is a 'Sony Thing' then I find it insulting that they want our money to fund its development.
Bring it to all and the funds will come.

Sony had an awesome E3, they brought some megaton announcements with them that shook the gaming community.
Shenmue and The last Guardian AND FFVII. Triple combo!!!
MS too had an awesome show, Hololens, Backward Compatibility, Exclusives coming out the hoo-ha, early dev program. They smacked that pony good!
Fans of either side have many reasons to rejoice.
