You want to know why they were talking about the other features of the PS3 and not the fact that it played games? Because for the preceding decade, console gaming has been known by one name: PlayStation. Everyone already knew the PS3 played games, because it's a PlayStation. However, when you're launching @ a $600 price point, the obvious question is, "What makes this thing so expensive? Why's it worth that much?" Sony was answering that question.

Sony didn't apologize because they were in the wrong. Kotaku was CLEARLY in the wrong. Sony apologized because they were getting slammed for blacklisting them, even though IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

Basically, kotaku got a lead on Home before Sony unveiled it at GDC. Sony asked them to sit on it because it was a big thing for them to do it at the actual event; they wanted to make an impact. Kotaku ignored them and ran it anyway. In response, Sony blacklisted Kotaku as they showed they couldn't be trusted. Everyone raised a fuss about it, even though kotaku was in the wrong here. It wouldn't shock me. i still remember that CAG incident that kotaku was whining about forever because they didn't bother doing simple fact-checking that my 2 year old nephew could have done.
