Dare we imagine Half-Life 3?

Glad to see LeChuck losing the fiery beard, he now looks like I always imagined him in Monkey Island 2...can't wait for this one!

If they control the hardware, then they can pretty much rule out all the compatibility problems present in Windows because of the huge disparity in hardware out there.

Hopefully this'll provide Apple the kick in the ass it needs to get decent OpenGL drivers in OSX. You can boot a MacPro into Windows or Linux and the realtime 3D performance is night and day.

This is good news for everyone.

These are rough waters for game developers right now; unless you've got another Modern Warfare or Halo on your hands, it's risky to put out a game exclusively on one platform because you will effectively halve its sales.

Arnon is correct; it's worth noting that the 8xxx & 9xxx series NVIDIA GPU (the RSX is based on the 7xxx) started using a version of the unified architecture that ATI used in the 360 GPU (and the equivalent Radeon cards).

Thus it stands to reason that the next Playstation, if Sony uses an NV or ATI card) will feature some sort of unified pipeline.

@Persistantthug

Because the functionality to join games and communicate is built into the Xbox OS, it's available at any time in any game even if the two players are in different games. If I see that someone is playing a game in my XMB on the PSN, I can't join their game unless I've booted the same game AND get an invite.

I believe MW2 added this manually on the PS3, but again because MS built it into Live the developers don't have to code it into each game individu...

@Motion

I prefer XBL over PSN (I have both). XBL is very tightly integrated into the system, and the biggest feature that no one really talks about is that you can choose any friend or recent player off of your list and join their game if you want, or invite a friend playing another game to a party or your current game. It's pretty seamless, and not possible with the current PSN setup. With PSN you both have to be in the game to invite. That sounds like a small thing, but if you ...

I did it with the chainsaw the other day, and it can be done. It greatly helps your chances if the tank is engaged with another player :)

I think the Xbox is up there for two reasons: they got a hell of lead on the competition by releasing in 2005, and they really made a lot of progress bringing online gaming to the console front. You can say this and that about how PSN is comparable, but anyone who's used the two will tell you otherwise... XBL really feels like a thriving community with the ease you can add and communicate with friends, and it's simple to jump in and out of their games. This is probably the *only* time Microso...

Just an observation on consistency, but just a month or two ago the Slim had been released and the PS3 sales were surging. Lots of stories and users here quoting NPD as the start of the PS3's dominating in sales.

So now a few months later as things have settled down, now the NPD is suddenly not reliable?

It might be possible, after all the Cell is a derivative of the POWER architecture.

Assuming this is true, this is a good thing for the next Playstation. Cell is a powerful chip, but I think that the design was a little too impractical for many developers.

Walther's got a lot more than two...he's also Booch, Rigmaster, Porcelaingod, Flatulentghost, Vicodin and a few more.

Pretty sad, really. But you can spot him a mile away with his sad ravings.

In China at least, MMO loot is a viable income source so a rare sword that was sold for $1000 could have fed that man's family for months. (not that I condone violence)

@SWORDF1SH

Probably best to ignore josuttis/Vicodin as he makes things up just as much as he claims VGChartz does.

Nasim got banned I think.

But trolls never really get banned... he also goes by Vicodin, ATY, Rigmaster, Dola, josuttis and a few more. Some of the stuff he spews is pretty entertaining, but mindless. If you want to see his ramblings, just mention VGChartz, Beyond3D or anything that might be even slightly in favor of the Xbox 360 and he'll coming running with more nonsense.

I think he has an inappropriate relationship going on with his PS3.
