Concerning the rumors about 2.7. I'm pretty sure they're fake.
One, the rumors are hypocritical towards themselves. (In game xmb speed increased, yet custom backgrounds for in game xmb = slowdown? In game internet browsing = more slowdown).
The only thing we can hope for from that update is xmb being sped up/

Until Halo gets some mature themes and realistic gameplay, many people including me will see it as a casual game.

It's been rumored (slightly proven) that Microsoft has patented the way to get custom soundtracks by having the music play over the game's soundtrack from the hard drive.
Sony has the developers now patch it in/code it in so they will not infringe that patent.
That's why they only implemented it now.

Hopefully they implemented it so that the music is loud enough so I can hear it, but still quiet enough so that I can hear all the explosions and guns whizzing by.
Arnon, you ever try the skate demos? I could get them to last 20 minutes.
Fear2? Got that to last about 15.
Dead Space? A measly..5 minutes.
Star Wars Force Unleashed? 15 minutes.
No demo should last 1 to 2 hours long. You may as well get the whole game without trying out to the demo.

The thing is with these type of articles, is that, they're all always opinion.

If you're talking about the single player, yes that part is amazing. some levels are rather shallow, but a lot of them are good. (Not all of the A.i but the game is fun.)
So single player yes.
Don't get me started on multiplayer though :P
