Here is some reality check, a $299 PS3 will open the flood gates for the platform, a PS3 priced at $299 is the perfect penetration point for the system, coupled with the platform's major franchises being released this year and it's party time for Sony, look at what a price cut did for the 360, remember that? So according to your logic price drops only work...
Sony and the PS3 just put Gamescom on the map for a lot of gamers, now gamers know that an event as big as E3 will be held in Europe every year from now on. So now gamers can look forward to E3, GC and TGS, that is awesome.

It would be Sony's last major announcement for the year at their last game show for the year, along with the motion controller, and it will be unveiled in the most appropriate and fitting place... Japan, Sony and Grand Tourismo's home town, Japan is gonna explode next month.
So Sony will drop current PS3 price to $299 and release the new model at $399?
I don't care what any fanboy says, but this game looks good, pity my 360 RROD last year or else I would be all over this game, hope it comes over to the PS3 at a later time and out of beta ;p
Use the public beta members to show off the game at GDC so that people attending the event will see how much Sony and Zipper have achieved in developing the game, and also show how much the game will own.

Sony will have to try and live up to all this hype. Hopefully for the fanatics sake Sony wont disappoint. Either way I can't wait to see what Sony have planned for the remainder of this year.
My 360 RROD 2x on me, the 1st time MS fixed it for free after I rant my butt off (they were trying to charge me), the second time they wanted to charge me to fix the same system they repaired just 7 months earlier, I said hell no and told them I'll never buy a hardware product from Microsoft again and hung up on them. I've been stuck with a broken 360 since June 2008 and it sucks because the system was a launched Pro model, I had about 15 games and the wireless network adapter, about a $800-$...
