At one of my jobs the fans we use to cool some of the units are as big and heavy as the power supply in the same units, in some of the units the engineers go as far as designing their own heat-sinks for their products.
They should introduce a 60GB for $250 and make that their core model and it will also make them very competitive, then make the 120GB at $299-$350 their bundle model and just bundle it with everything they want to push ie: motion controller, GT5 and so on. Do not go back into the $400 range.
No doubt it will sell but only to people that really want it. That deal if true seems like Sony is going to exploit the GT series, which is fine I really don't/can't blame them for that, but they can do more damage if they bundled at a much more consumer friendly price, $399 will send the wrong signal, and a 250GB HDD is a bit much. Make a limited edition bundle with the 120GB or even 60GB for $350, and it's game over, $400 is too much.
I really hope they don't push the PS3 back into the $399 range, it's too much, either way that would be an insane bundle.
This is a clearance deal and it is not that bad of a deal, but MS need to come down more because the PS3 still holds it's value when the 360 is priced this close.

Game journalism is horrible, and very few websites come out and speak against other bad web sites, they just promote each other. The media have been lying about the PS3 since it launched, plain and simple.

This was accomplished while the PS3 was still $399-$499, now at $299 the 360 really have no prayer.

BluRay continues to be a major factor this gen, and now with the $299 PS3 I expect huge sales this holiday, all Sony need to do now is get some major movie studios to help them push the PS3's ability to play BluRay like they used to with Walt Disney and the system will fly off shelves.

Way to show your fan base how much you think of them, first you lie to them about failure rates, then you rip them off by charging $50 a year for Live (peer to peer match making), then you rip them off again by charging them more than $199 for an obsolete video game console (Xbox 360).
Eu and Japan ps3 numbers are greater than 360 USA monthly numbers. The 2 systems are currently split in eu with the ps3 being more expensive than the 360, now with the $299 ps3 Sony will easily dominate eu. Japan belongs to the PS3 from now on (not counting the wii), 360 won't stand a chance, expect to see a similar gap there almost like the one in the USA only with this gap being in the ps3 favor. The USA won't be easy, but no worries like I said Japan and EU will be enought to pass the 360,...
The research was based on how the $299 price tag affects the current 80GB and 160GB, and most have already figured that out, this is not a bias article because to some measure Sony is loseing even more money on the current skus at $299. So just leave it at that, once they are all sold off Sony won't be loseing money on each unit sold, the slim took care of that issue.
