... for many MANY people, it's a very valuable way of spending their spare time, either alone or with friends/family.
Plus, it's a billion-dollar industry, providing work for many MANY thousands of people (probably millions), and thus also making lots of money for the country, and thus the people.
Kinda sad that a newspaper singles out videogames as waste of time, cause TBH the same could be said about pretty much every hobby, using those same arguments. It also ...
... when EGM did it 15 years orso ago(!)
Now? Meh.
... I hate it when they censor games, and TBH I will not, and never, buy a censored game/movie.
... and not do a single mission, just having lots and lots of fun with car-chases, shoot-outs, sniping, etc etc... ;)
That's what's so great about GTA. You can play and have fun for 10 minutes, or you can play and have fun for 4 hours, and you will still be absolutely free to do whatever you like.
You dont have to move the story along if you dont want to :)
... will most likely be a new main character with his own story-arc, set in Liberty City. He'll have his own story, his own new friends and villains, maybe they'll also add a few new vehicles etc, and new indoor settings, and all that kinda stuff.
Possibly if the new character is chinese/asian (immigrant again), they'll also have new fighting moves for him, and ofcourse different outfits and a different phone than Nico has, etc.
I think that's the most logical id...
... 'testing?' 'risks'
Hey, why not forbid kids to watch cartoons, or reading comicbooks, or the Bible, or listening to music.
Sure, there are absolutely no statistics these things can negatively influence a kid, bt why take that 'risk', rght? It's so unethical to 'test' it all out, and in the end see that it DID affect a very VERY VERYYYYYYYYYY small percentage of kids negatively, right!?
Aw geez... people like this woman can just drive me absolu...
...but in what way would overpriced DLC content that could and thus SHOULD have been in the retail versionin the first place, sound "too good to be true"!?
I'm glad it's just a joke, but it does show in what kind of sad state the gaming-industry is in right now...
"Ever since I started playing and loving videogames, like Mario and Sonic, among other games, I suddenly felt the need, when I turned 15-16, to smoke pot, drink alcohol, skip school, and just hang around on the streets a bit, waiting for a new high. Occasionally, a videogame came out that I wanted, and with education being a mess and jobs very hard to find for someone like me who dropped out of school, I occasionally had to rob someone in order to pay for my alcohol addiction and videoga...
... and I agree thats a big part of the problem ('how can running over a hooker and stealing her money be fun!?' I dont know but it's hilarious that it's possible!), however, I feel that in order to censor, or ban, or otherwise limit individual's own freedom to watch, play, listen to, etc what he/she likes, you really need a very good, valid reason, backed up by FACTS.
Politicians shouldnt make rules and laws just because they have a 'gut-feeling' that these games/videos/songs ...
... with tens or even hundreds of game-related cases of violence and killings on a weekly basis, I can totally understand why this is of top-priority to the politicians and media...(!)
Seriously, world-wide, over the past 10-15 years, maybe there were like what, 4-5 cases of a crime directly connected to the content of a violent videogame!?
Hasnt the Bible caused more hatred and violence and deaths over the years!? Why not keep that out of the hands of minors as...
... so soccermoms and 55 year old dudes can join in on the fun, at the expense of gamers who enjoy a challenge and arent too stupid to take 30 minutes to learn the controls!?
Sounds like a stupid idea that's just gonna piss of the gaming-community, while hoping to bring in the non-gaming demographic...
It might work, dont get me wrong, but I doubt it's a positive thing.
I dont want an easy, bland game that my grandma can play. If I want that, I'll ...
... GTA4 looks great, sounds great, seems to play great, and I'm sure there wont be another sandbox-style game with the euphoria engine and all the other cool great stuff that's in there, to form a real alternative.
So I'm pretty sure it will be OK, fun-wise.
Unless EA buys it all up, in which case we are all screwed... :P
Really depends on the price in combination with the content.
If they are gonna charge wayyy too much, I wont bother with it.
If it's just 1200 points orso for a LOT of new content (maybe new main character for a whole new storyline, set in the same city ofcourse, and new side-characters and voices etc etc), I will probably get it.
But if I feel it's a rip-off, obviously I wont.
Also not sure yet if I'll go for the PS3 version or the...
... and it's probably cause they will just deduct it from their taxes anyway...
Photoshop is wayyy to expensive for the regular home-user, and TBH, WE arent Adobe's target-market. Their target market is business and schools, which will pay cause they can easily afford it, cause they use that software to actually MAKE a profit.
Now, IF I was making a living and Photoshop was an integral instrument to me making that living, I would also just buy it legally (and deduct it f...
... first Gary Daniels died, and now this(!)
;)
I'm a huge fan of Nas :) Very glad he is the game.
I'm not even a huge rapfan or anything like that, as I have a very varied taste in music, but he carries himself across as a smart, mature guy with most of the time really good lyrics etc. :)
I would have loved it if the game had 'I Gave You Power" and some other classics in it... but an original song is good too I guess :D
I believe it comes with only 8 tracks, right?
So most likely, they will release more tracks in a few months time, and charging you extra for it.
I fear this will just be another DLC scam, where you end up paying a lot extra for stuff that could and probably should have been in the released version from the get-go...
So that's my only worry, and could be a reason for me to not pick this up.
Other than that, it looks very fun.
... she will absolutely lose the election, cause americans hate censorship and her opponents can attack her on the 1st ammendment and all that, plus she'll have to exolain why GTA4 is that much worse than pretty much any other shooter etc.
So yeah, she might jumo on this, and get some votes from ignorant soccermoms, yet she would lose the vote of rational americans, or just americans who dont want to be censored by their goverment...
And Jack Thompson is a nobody...
... as there is no evidence that violent videogames have a bad influence on those who play them. The jury is still out on that one.
I know they are doing it just to be sure, but what's next? Warning labels on rap-music, or pop? Or before watching eastender or some other crappy show which will feature people behaving 'out of order'?
What about a big huge warning label across the front of the Bible? We know that book has instigated hate and diversity and disrespect...
... if they wanna release an Elite with a built-in Blu-Ray, for the current price, I'll buy one...
... but I aint buying an overpriced piece of add-on hardware.
