PS2 classics are always a problem due to it's emulation method, no matter what region. Other games natively PS3 made shouldn't be as much of a problem though...
Actually you should look again. Those cars didn't look like that on GT4. They had better textures and polycounts. Standards are actually GTPSP models for cross compatibility. If you upload your GTPSP garage to GT5, you'll get the standard version of whatever's premium, like GT-R's and such.
Lesson: Don't jump into multiplat development thinking you're guaranteed big money, or you'll end up right in the mobile gutter.
