Remember the original fat PS3 Had BC, and according to usage data bugger all people used it. So in later cost cutting revisions they removed the Cell chip.

Shikoku - Games take about 3 - 4 years to make, having a dev kit now or in the last year - doesn't mean much. Also Sony would be showing an iteration of PS5, not the finished product.
I don't see or feel the need for an upgrade, I got a PS4 on launch night and still feel there's life left in it.

It won't matter mate, it really won't. Anything ms has in the pipeline for the next year or 2 won't even touch what Sony has releasing in that same time.
Remember there's 3 massive releases for Sony that don't have release dates yet. Two of which would do at least 4 - 5 million and the 3rd 10+ million.

They still have 3 HUGE games without release dates. And I don't expect all 3 to be released his year.
Price-cut and a few bundles, black Friday and other sales - PS4 will sell fine for the next 2 yrs.
I'll give it a go. Consoles are expensive to design, manufacture, distribute and repair. An easier way would be to have it all server side and just offer games through live or gamepass on whatever device they strike up an agreement with.
