...Is it ever "long enough?"
I predict: disappointment and spin. Lots and lots of spin.
If you actually pay attention to things, you'll find that Nintendo is one of the more experimental developers out there. Yes, they're also highly iterative. But the two approaches are not mutually exclusive.
While other developers focus on pumping out more and more first-person shooters or character action games, Nintendo has been inventing and popularizing entirely new genres fairly consistently. That they also pump out lazy rehashes of SNES games and so on does not ...
I don't know. Nintendo doesn't really seem to know what it wants to do with Metroid.
Plus, they've just launched a big shooting game, so they're unlikely to unveil a Prime-style game; and the WiiU has a glut of 2D platformers, so they're either much less (or much more) likely to do a traditional Metroid game.
Personally, I'd love to see Nintendo do a low-budget 2D Metroid w/ a similar art style to Guacamelee... but I don't see it h...
Another console update that does nothing?
Oh, well. At least the WiiU already has all the basic features necessary for a moderne platform. Shame we're STILL waiting on simple stuff like folders for the PS4.
Pretty much.
Their are four basic types of platformers.
Mario Bros. defined the sidescrolling platformer genre.
Mario 64 defined the 3D platformer genre.
Banjo-Kazooie defined the sidekick platformer genre.
Like Ratchet & Clank? Sly Cooper? Jak and Daxter? Thank Banjo.
What Nintendo really needs at E3 are some decently-sized third-party announcements.
Something that rhymes with Tragon Kuest, for example.
Nintendo's first party lineup is always fairly strong... if you ignore the occasionally WTF-are-they-really-that-dumb titles that pop up every once in a while (like Doctor Mario). What they need to entice NEW gamers to their platforms are third-party games.
Me too.
But mostly because I'm not even remotely excited for Sony or Microsoft.
I mean, I can only be interested in FFXV for so many decades.
Funny. I bought it last month for $50 and didn't get ripped off.
Huh.
People are complaining because all of the FFv13 story bits we heard were a lot more interesting than the FF15 story bits we're hearing now.
Instead of a prince-in-exile fleeing an invading army that's conquered his homeland and killed his father, for example, we now get a happy-go-lucky roadtrip with three punks who all share too-similar costumes, voice actors, hairstyles, etc.
Instead of a party of interesting folks, we get three guys.
...You're not a Square fan, because (as every Square or Enix fan noticed when it happened) the company no longer exists.
Square-Enix is a very, very different entity... granting them faith/goodwill/whatever simply because they inherited some nouns from S and E is what enables them to go for so long without releasing any big games, for releasing mediocre and bad games etc., etc.
Knowing Nintendo, it's a complete toss-up as to whether or not the new service will be better, worse, or equivalent to the old one.
...The reasons are obvious.
The staggered content exists because Nintendo has a very weak Summer lineup. By staggering content they get to release a big game earlier and provide a steady stream of new content to consumers.
Lack of voice chat exists because Nintendo wants everyone to be able to enjoy their games, instead of only emotionally and mentally stunted tweens.
The only game on this list I've ever seen anyone get "nostalgic" for is Shenmue.
Was Zestiria actually a bad game, or is it just getting a lot of hate for the DLC fiasco?
At this point, whether or not there's some global social justice anti-gaming conspiracy is irrelevant: the (only) people I see pushing agendas and spreading toxin everywhere are folks like YOU, captain obvious.
In retrospect, FFX-2 may well be the best Final Fantasy game Square-Enix has produced, discounting the various remakes and ports they farmed out, of course.
Have you not been paying attention to the new generation of gamers?
All they care about are rehashes and ports.
Not quite.
The Nintendo faithful are constantly overestimating Nintendo; the Nintendo-ignorant are constantly underestimating Nintendo to the point of dismissal.
Will Nintendo have a great stuff to talk about come E3?
Of course they will. But only the fanboys will be 100% satisfied, and the people who didn't care about Nintendo before E3 probably won't care after E3 no matter what Nintendo says or does.
Pretty much.
If I didn't already own a Vita, I would have bought one immediately after last week's news.
