Halo is in the "it can only be killed by itself" category. Halo 1 and 2 set the bar for a fps on a console, the only thing that can kill halo now is Bungie. Just like the only thing that can kill MGS is kojima, and the only thing that can kill Mario is nintendo. Or hell, I thought that sonic would be an everlasting classic and look what sega did to it, the only way the game could be killed was by sega...

then why use procedural programming for the textures, why not just create an aging texture? One that slowly morphs over time, like a waterfall effect moves and changes, but make it much slower. This sounds like it was possible last gen, just not really incorporated because no games are long enough to effectively use it in creating the environment or atmosphere. The only games I can really think of that would benefit from this type of texturing, is something like a FF7 remake when you go back...
