Rez is relative to the monitor you own.
Native always looks perfect if your running 1080p on a pure 1080p monitor.
If you run 720p or even 1440x900 or even 1680x1050 on a native 1080p monitor the image is not clear.

Run the BF4 beta with FRAPS.
Drop the rez and check how much you gain in performance.
Rez isn't everything.
Shader quality, lighting etc, post processing. fx.
I think PS4 version will be 1080p on a high setting@60fps.
On a i5 2500k - 6870 on high i'm getting 35fps in the beta. and the beta is not pushing my cpu at all. I can record with fraps and it's still 30fps.

1080p with crystal clear graphics@60fps like my PC will be easily good enough. Most tv's that people own are 1080p ready.
It's more about what they pack it with, instead of size imo.

The fish code alone takes up 4gb ram. DAT Swimming away from ya is not possible on the N64 erm oh dam.

Big gulf in graphics in many places, PS3 does ok for what it is. an old machine.
Dice should just make sure the PS3 build is smooth as possible.
PC has alot of bugs, helicopters remaining in mid air after being blown up, getting stuck on invisible parts of the world. Missing dynamic lighting inside(baked).

Just surprised by the lack of dynamic lights inside the buildings. Shout out the light and the fake light mass remains.
I think Cryengine 3 slaps this about abit tbh.

GT6 looks great for PS3, just textures and track detail alittle bit missing.
FORZA5 looks like a higher rez FORZA4 to me.

Panda that was 60fps during combat, they said the slight drops would be during death animations or things that are not during gameplay.
I think PS4 version will be 1080p.
Xboxone will be either 720p full.
or 1080p with details missing.
Also panda, BF4 was patched on pc and runs alot better now for me.
