Then good is average? Well we have a ton of average stories, which are good? I don't get it.
Simple stories can be profound and not. The difference is the effect and they way they affect. An average simple story, while solid will ultimately be lost in a sea of other average stories. If we are to take the Last of Us story as a piece of writing then it's whatever, but combine it with gameplay - now we have something.
If the writer is actually good ...
Some of those games you mention are interactive books, less game really. And as much as I love the Last of Us and RDR. The stories themselves are way short of profound, which is what I think good writing is.
I really enjoyed this article. To be fair writing in general is awful in most movies and books. However, video-games do not have a Camus, Dostoevsky, or Kafka. I think time is a huge factor as the written word has been around much longer, yet not as long as vocal storytelling (a much shorter way of telling a story).
Video games are a unique medium for story-telling. They are part movie, part book, part campfire and part game. I would give it a another 100 years.
I think it;'s time to get rid of the easy option in games that aren't geared for a 6 year old, but I'm not going to worry about it, because there are a ton of games out there. You know the whole something for everyone. So quit trying to be a game mode tyrant and play something else.
Ghost of Tsushima is coming out - people will lose it if this game is hard too.
I predict that it doesn't matter if we want it or not, we will have to use it in one way or another, and then they will claim success. It's cost effective and they will not stop until it happens. We will get an inferior product while they make superior profits. This will render most games as digital casinos filled with adds. I suppose full circle as that's the way arcade games used to be.
It will fail until they force everyone to use it.
I wouldn't play it now, but I loved Altered Beast back then.
They made a complete game. Why cut it up into different modes? What's the benefit of hacking apart a complete experience. Especially when your complete experience is sold on the understanding that it will be difficult. I don't understand why people can't understand this.
There are 1000s of games out there, play something else or tell your editor that you can't finish the game and give it a good review in the time they need it. All of this nonsense is dising...
Thanks for the heads up.
Good question.
Great review! I didn't think they existed anymore.
Is it going to have a special "USB" edition?
They are trying to turn players into payers because they have a monthly projection to hit. So, they don't want to give too much for free. They know the game is built around this.
I almost forgot about Mage!
Origins is the first one I have tried. Still haven't finished it.
I hope so. Promethean, something in Dark Ages, of course Werewolf etc would all be awesome. Hopefully they pull this one off, so we can see more.
They respect their players by not having an online mode and releasing a complete game. This writer must not respect gamers.
"Gruff White Male" - some idiot. I want to play this. I don't really like the biker culture, but this game looks like a ton of fun and I am willing to bet the story will be awesome, no matter what a neo-capitalist hipster says.
If Destiny were free to play, I would agree. Haven't played D2 yet and Warframe is pretty good for what it is.
It's the first of April.
