The Wii ended up becoming a glorified emulation machine for me, through the virtual console. I hated the motion controls, so once I got a classic pro controller, I never looked back. Some people absolutely loved the Wii, though, and I won't fault them for that. To each their own.
I grew up playing table-top RPGs, in addition to playing video game RPGs, the latter of which all borrowed from table-top systems (like Dungeons & Dragons) for the inspiration of their creation. I have to agree with Torillian's assessment that stats are a fundamental characteristic of a RPG. Sure, link gains abilities and strengths as he progresses through the game, but as Torillian pointed out, so does Kratos, and God of War isn't an RPG, but both have RPG elements.

Er... umm... I don't see your point, or how it is relevant to what I said.
Squaresoft left Nintendo because Nintendo decided to make the N64 a cartridge-based system. That is why Final Fantasy VII came out on the PSX. That is why I bought a Playstation. That is why countless people bought Playstation. We stuck with the Playstation through PSX and PS2 because that's where the JRPGs were, and they were great games. I bought a PS3 fully an...
More turn-based JRPGs than ever? Where, exactly? This generation has had Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, a couple of godawful Final Fantasy titles... and what else? Do you understand what a turn-based JRPG is?
Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Grandia... having options for Fight, Magic, Item... taking turns (hence turn-based) in strategic battles.
Also, I don't really understand the comment about "consoles are irrelevant being in last place," considering ...
I agree entirely. When Square made the jump from Nintendo to Playstation because of not wanting to support the N64's cartridge-based games, it solidified Playstation as the system of choice for JRPG lovers. After 2 generations of Playstation consoles, JRPG gamers have seemed to develop a bit of brand loyalty, and have stuck with Sony through the PS3. Mistwalker was funded by Microsoft, though, so without Microsoft, the company and the game wouldn't have existed in the first place. I s...
Yet another example of how an article about breast physics will easily attain 800 degrees on N4G, while good articles go almost entirely ignored. I enjoyed reading this.
Are N4G submissions with controversial headlines crafted specifically to garner hits?
That was meant only as a joke. The semi-sensationalist headline is rather misleading; Sara Swanson can actually write. :)
That was pretty much exactly the point of this: http://n4g.com/news/1086162...
This whole new generation will grow up with Nintendo as well, just as I did – especially now that the Wii U is indeed expanding the palette of Nintendo's repertoire into much more sophisticated material. My daughter already has a major interest in, and likes watching games like Tales of Vesperia, Blue Dragon, Skyrim, or anything RPG related. Just as many gamers graduated from Pokemon to more sophisticated JRPGs and WRPGs, the new generation will likely spring from Pokemon into new realms....
My 8-year-old daughter is a Pokemon fanatic, as is most of her class. Pokemon isn't going anywhere. There is a whole new generation of fans coming into the franchise.
Even the headline had horrible grammar. Jesus.
Ah, even more childish, entitled, immature bullshit from the gaming community.
I concur. I always see people talking about the original Grandia, but Grandia II blows it out of the fucking water IMHO.
Nearly 900-fucking-degrees? Seriously? Good journalism, well-formed opinions, and interesting articles aren't rewarded on N4G. Instead, garbage like this is propelled to the upper echelons of the temperature scale.
N4G truly is the bottom of the barrel.
Indeed. Good riddance to them and their pseudo tech and gaming journalism bullshit. What business does a Playboy bunny have hosting a show like AOTS? Sessler leaving was the nail in the coffin.
Mod Nation Racers? Ugh. That game would have been so much fun, had it not been plagued by an over abundance of long-ass loading screens. I sincerely hope that LBP Karting remedies this problem, and becomes the game that MNR should have been.
Skyrim. Hands down.
No, people definitely don't read a goddamned thing, apparently. But, what do you expect? It's N4G.
I concur. Funny how things like racist or bigoted games, or games that feature acts of pedophilia were eschewed from the list, but sex was considered entirely taboo.
Final Fantasy III is fucking brutal.
