100% agree.
I'm another who's noticed what's been happening to the series since X.
It's as if all that we loved about the old games were just included as place holders by SE until they got there hands on some good enough hardware to start leaving it all out. The more power they get each generation, the more they shift their focus towards being more linear and movie-like.
The complete 180° from what FF12 was like took me by surprise.
I ...
lol nice pic :)
What are they trying to say?
That it's good enough for the 360 but not good enough for the PC or something?
Perhaps the 360 just has lower standards.
Yeah, but does it have towns?
Looks kind of like Silent Hill but with Resident Evil 5 graphics to me.
From the responses I've been reading I was expecting something really impressive. Sure, it was okay but:
"OMFG this is Mind Blowing wooooooooot"
"Yeah, it looks really, really good. I'm blown away to be honest"
"that trailer was beyond epic"
Really?
"Who cares what NPC's had to say?"
Wow, way to miss the point of RPGs. It's as much about the exploration/immersion as it is about the main story, battles and walking.
Well at least it should be IMO.
They've kept the total play time of FF13 the same as in the old games by stretching out the story/cutscenes while cutting out all the other stuff - apparently for no other reason than it's easier to do.
If you added an extra 10-15 hour...
Wow it sounds like they have been putting a lot of thought/effort into this game.
I suppose I had better work hard at my own job too, so that I can earn the money to buy it...
...
...
Not!
@ceedubya9
"weren't necessary to move the story along"
The game is supposed to be an RPG, freedom/exploration/back story are just as important as the main quest. It's not supposed to be an on-rails action game or at least that's not what I was hoping for.
Exploring/experiencing/talkin g to the characters in Shumi village or Winhill (as Squall etc) in FFVIII were some of my favourite bits about that game - and they're completely optional to even...
The lack of which is pretty much the main complaint I've been hearing about the game.
I will not be paying full price for this game. Second hand only.
RPG with optional fun stuff/immersion/freedom cut out? Stupid decision IMO.
What did they run out of space or something?
They can't just expect the brand to sell like it always has if they don't keep the quality up to par.
Perhaps SE track record of late is making consumers more cautious with their money.
I know that I've definitely learned a thing or two about smart spending since the PS2 days.
My thoughts on FF series:
FF1-FF5: Never played them
FF6/FF7: Tied for second best FF game
FF8: Best FF ever and still one of my all time favourite games
FF9: Half-assed. Beginning of the downfall of the series. Overall mediocre.
FF10: Terrible
FF11: Online = /ignore from me
FF12: Close, but no cigar. Battle/upgrade/menu system not deep enough and lets it down. But a glimmer of hope returns for the series.
FF13: ??? I remain cautiously o...
I'll agree that Vertigo is awesome.
But there is no way that the regular DCU stuff being published lately (last ten years or so) is of a generally better quality than what Marvel has been doing.
Not even on par in my opinion.
I don't think it's about trying to convince 360 fans. I think it's more about constantly repeating the fact for the sole reason that 360 fans try so hard to cover it up.
I think that this generation it will forever be:
- PS3 exclusives are why the PS3 is more unique/valuable than other platforms.
- 360 exclusives are why the 360 is more unique/valuable than the PS3.
I've always found it funny when people say "but Microsoft still gets your money".
It's complete misdirection.
One minute the conversation is about which platform has the best games and then they try to switch the topic to be about which company is making money.
When the fact that the PC and 360 having pretty much the same games lineup is pointed out..
- You can point out the actual exclusive games on each platform.
- Or you c...
My theory is that people have just been throwing their 360s in the bin when they *eventually* break and then buying PS3s instead.
AKA not bothering with warranty repairs/reporting the failure.
wtf game has auto aim?
Quake Live!!!
It's a bit old fashioned what with not having any "level ups" and all players in an arena having equal access to the exact same weapons/items/abilities as the next player from the very beginning.
But what it might lack in "air strikes" it makes up for by being the latest way to package the most balanced and skillful competitive fps game around - that's right, Quake III baby.
The only other bad thing about it is that it'...
PS1 #1.
Yeah exactly, they shouldn't have taken it out.
Plus who wants to use wired controls anymore? Not to mention with PS3 b/c you get up-scaled graphics and infinite memory card space too.
Having to have a PS3 and a PS2 hooked up is a poor option I think. It should be one device to rule them all.
