"Every single product out there can be said to have features you don't want/need yet are "forced" to pay for"

I can't think of any product I own that has a feature I didn't want/ don't use that would have added 25% to that products retail cost.

The PS3 was trying to be an all round entertainment system long before microsoft thought of it.

Its a 3D blu-ray player, it gives you access to lovefilm, netflix, youtube, vidzone, psn movie store and internet browsing.

Sony were always going to build on this with the PS4 it's just that they didn't think it was that big a deal to spend time explaining it when announcing their new games console.

"could care less"

Hate reading that expression.

"They were arrogant and said, "don't worry, the sheep will buy no matter what we price it"."

They were arrogant and, quite rightly, received alot of bad press and gamer backlash during the early years of the PS3 as a result, however they seem to have learned from their mistakes and are taking a very different approach towards the release of the PS4.

I've now read a couple of articles on this from the last few days and all they talk about is the ability to share downloaded content and gold account features between unlimited user profiles on the same console.

Mind you, I find it hard to believe that even ms would expect every family member to have their own gold account on one family console.

Whats so good about the family share feature?

Surely the requirement for just one gold account per console for an unlimited number of user accounts should be expected, shouldnt it? Am I missing something?

@no limits

Do you get access to the whole game? I'd be a bit dubious of that feature if it is indeed as you have explained it, won't it result in alot of missed game sales? Even more so than the current used market.

That wasn't the primary reason for removing BC.
Ofcourse they would have immediately seen it as an opportunity to resell PS2 games when the decision was made but the main reason was to reduce manufacturing costs. Otherwise why include BC in the first place.

Nintendo fans can't seem to get enough of their marios and zeldas. Theyre not really my cup of tea but I don't see that as a good reason to slate Nintendo.

You're really scraping th...

Success in one gen does not and should not guarantee success in the next gen.

"The day it becomes a one horse race is the day console gaming will be dead"

Depends who the one horse is.

Console gaming was far from dead during the PS1 and PS2 days.

A successful generation does not guarantee success in the next. Sony learned that early in the PS3s life and have done phenomenally well to recover as well as they have.

Let's see if it's microsofts turn to eat humble pie.

Bubble to you sir, without a doubt the most sensible comment here.

I don't think they'll be many, not because they don't want to but because I don't see it being possible to find one on store shelves a month after release.

I wouldn't personnally buy one that soon though. The PS3 was out 18 months before I bought one along with an extra controller and 6 games and that was still cheaper than the basic console price at launch.

If I do give in and buy one early though I will pm you to tell you that you were r...

PS3 has plenty of life left in it, it'll do me at least another year before I decide to make the jump to next gen. I never see the point in buying a console at launch, I always wait till at least the first price drop and until there's a decent library of games.

COD is like sports titles in this regard, they were here first.

I didnt buy an hdtv till 2008 and as soon as I did I started looking at which hd console to buy.

Two main factors helped me make my decision - the hardware problems associated with the 360 put me off off buying it and bluray inclusion made the PS3 a no brainer.

"the issue of hardware is completely moot in the next generation of consoles"

"Both the PS4 and Xbox One are powerful machines, to the point that they essentially cancel one another out."

No 'ifs' there.

Terrible article.

"Hey morganfell how much they pay u?"

Pot, kettle, black if ever I did see it.

I don't get where you're coming from with your comparisons to the PS3 launch price.

I think the big deal that people are going on about is that the entry level PS4 is $100 cheaper than the entry level xbox one, something nobody saw coming before the E3 announcements.

However, back to the PS3 comparisons - I think it's easier t...

I was asking you that, I don't know for sure. I was, however, under the impression that ms wanted kinect to be a necessity.

I do find it interesting that that is the only part of my comment you chose to reply to though.

@grownupgamer

But the launch price of the PS3 was a huge deal in 2006 even though the world was in a far better economical state back then compared to now. So why wouldnt xbox ones launch price cause a stir?

So what if kinect's included, back in 2006 for $499 you were getting a brand new gaming console aswell as the cheapest bluray player available at that time.

Also, doesnt the xbox one need kinect to work? Or has it been confirmed that ...

@bzone24

Gutted about the family share feature being dropped. Myself and my 9 gaming buddies had already decided on the one game each of us was buying at launch so we had 10 different games each for the price of one.

That was sarcasm btw.

It amazes me that some people take marketing speak at face value without applying some common sense.
