He says this like battlefield didn't exist before Call of Duty. Saying they are similar, I can agree to a point but in reality they are very different games. I think it's just the perception that devs are lazy that will keep this author from enjoying what should otherwise be a very different feeling shooter than what we are used to.

I enjoyed what time I did have with Socom Confrontation. It's not the best ever, but not near as bad as most people claimed.
NavySeal74, at least give Socom 4 a chance. I'm really hoping it plays more like the original Socom and Socom II.
I think we are starting to halt with the giant graphical leaps that we saw from say n64/ps1/ to the xbox/ps2 generation. Graphics will get better but I don't see it being as great a jump as the author here is expecting.

Battlefield 2 is my all time favorite game. I never was bothered with all the patches because from my point of view they just fixed small things that effected how my team was able to take things. We played competitively on CAL. The main fix I'm referring to are when they tried to fix dolphin diving but it really only slowed it down because it still worked really well. Guys, this demo was shown at siggraph. It's for people who do the number crunching. It was shown to programmers and software engineers. To them, it's very mind blowing. If you don't find it mind blowing then keep in mind this video wasn't meant for you.
I think the real question should be,
"Are gamers expectations too high?"
