I'm all over this one as well. I just wish they could have pushed this out before now because all these games coming out are draining my bank account fast.
what your saying is in someways true but the fact that the 60 gig will still have BC and for only 50 more. The people will just have to decide for themselves what they want more, to play PS2 games or save a little.

agreed. this really doesn't make any sense since I was just reading that they were going to change the 60 gig pack once the existing one is gone. Even if they do just have the 40 gig you can bet they are already working on software to replace the GS chip so it can have BC
the $399 40 gig is in the Best Buy SKU databank with a 10/28/07 in stock date. I would call that pretty confirmed.
I really don't think the lack of BC is a big deal. People aren't going to just chuck their PS2 in the trash, The 60 gig is still going to be around, and there really isn't going to be anything worth while coming to the PS2 anyway. If you really think about it, how long did any of you really keep buying or playing a lot of PS1 games once you got a PS2? I bet it wasn't too long.
The reason the 20 gig ceased to be was because when the PS3 launched was plain and simple, a terrible time to have a two stage price point.
Early adopters often aren't willing to go for second best, if its something they have to get day one then they want the best one, thus stores weren't selling as many compared to the 60 gig. I can't believe any one really thought they wouldn't have BC. Sony started BC in consoles and has been a selling feature since they started. I mean why wouldn't Sony want people to play the huge list of games (what is it, like 2000 now) they already made.

I think the 40 gig will be part of this, but with info from the konami TGS site saying MGS4 in winter 07 and a haze ad talking about rumble, I would have to say that your probably spot on.

I think they'll hold until the agreement with the FCC is up. If they are in fact going to bundle it with Spider-man 3, it wouldn't make sense to say anything before oct. 15, since Spider-man doesn't drop in the US until oct. 30.
