World at War was actually a pretty good game. It was better than MW2.
I never really was interested in it at launch, and never bought it because of the whole "ww2" thing, but I then later picked it up used for 30 bucks. Still didn't get into it when I first bought it, so it was lying on my shelf for a while.
Then I bought Modern Warfare 2, played it, got sick and tired of it, and traded it in. So I decided to give WaW a shot, and damn, it was...
Regardless of whether most people do it for that reason or not, it is a legitimate reason.

Because playing the disc wears out the laser over time. If you only play your games on the hd, then there is a much smaller chance of it going out in the future.
Even though I'm not that big a fan of Halo, that actually looks pretty damn fun. Though I won't be spending 100 bucks just to play this (game+xbl 12month subscription).

I plan to get all 3. KZ3 for my dark/gritty/photorealistic shooter, Crysis for my colorful/hi-res/alwayswantedto playitbutnevercould fps, and Resistance 3 for... well I don't know much about the game yet, so I can't say, but I do know that it will be awesome.
From the actual gaming community, sp games don't get very much backlash at all. Sure, the casuals may not buy games if they don't have mp in them, but to be fair, they aren't real gamers, and most likely aren't smart enough to recognize quality in anything (movies, music, tv, food, art, literature).

I personally LOVED the graphics in the first inFamous. I can't really describe it, though I'll just say it was unique and for lack of a better term, shiny.
I don't know why people seem to hate the old graphical style, it looked awesome to me.
