Well they didn't officially announce it through a press release. Nintendo released these numbers in their financial earnings report just recently.
Not to mention Bioware and their Mass Effect. Think have been teasing for a few years now without actual reveals or new details.

IN all honesty, the leaks didn't reveal anything bad. Even more hype towards launch. People are even hyped for the game's main menu at this point.

It's a shame if Nintendo decides to launch yet another underpowered console. I think they deserve to at least compete against both MS and Sony.

I was thinking the same. Their statement concerning the fact that subscriber base has doubled, doesn't say that much either.
They did good back then, but sales were pretty poor compared to the playstation and ps2 in that time as well. They really boomed with the wii.

Architecture parity would surely help out. Let's hope that Nintendo sees where they have gone wrong with the Wii U (don't get me wrong - the console has some lovely titles).
Problem is that, while Nintendo always tries to innovate, this doesn't always mean it will work out.

Ofc it's logical - there's a gap of like 15 years between them. Still it's nice to see the upgrade it has received over the years I guess.
I still see Nintendo, more in particular Miyamoto, as one of the best (if not the best) designers in the industry. It's a shame that third parties haven't been supporting the console. If they release a new console with hardware that use the same architecture as its rivals, I can compete once again.
