I wouldn't say this is a GamePass only strategy at all as its the same method PS+ uses for deciding what are the free games each month. Would anyone at all have played Destruction Allstars or Bugsnax or Wreckfest or Oddworld Soulstorm if they weren't FREE on PS+ ? It gives those games a fair chance at success so players can experience them without risk of having wasted their money.

Right! So really, if that truly was the original pitch for the sequel, Sony was pretty justified in turning it down even if the first game sold well. So many people losing their minds at 1 pitch being declined when they never said a sequel would never ever happen, just not with that pitch.
