I know it's a ficticious adaptation of medieval times, but they had to act like that either way, as to manipulate the men and have some agency and get their way. Not a good era for women (people in general, but I guess women had it rough). Quite "realistic", IMO. Benedikta has loads of power, but she is using her looks and sexuality to manipulate other ~~male~~ dominants, still adds up,

If we go by the first game's ending, Alan Wake is kinda like an entity now. He can literally be an omniscient narrator while we play as another guy or girl entirely and the game would still be in line with the title "Alan Wake".

The issue here is that you are mistaking fear for phobia. Phobias are generally irrational. It's OK to fear spiders, I do. They are associated with insects and poison, two things we usually stray away from because of diseases. It's a rational fear. Having a phobia of spiders, however, usually means a person will show an irrational fear of anything related to arachnids, even cartoons and videogames.
