The Game Cube was more powerful than the PS2, same with Xbox. Although this is proven, PS2 still had the best graphics available out of all 3 systems, which is quite surprising.
Dreamcast was not more powerful than the PS2. Developers talked about hitting the wall very early while developing on the Dreamcast. Less than a year they said they pushed the graphics to the limit. I believe them, nothing out of the Dreamcast was striking on the graphical side of things.
No one ever said they were going to match the CGI trailer? You must be referring to Killzone 2 I suppose? Killzone 2 actually met the CGI trailer, in some cases surpassed it. Killzone 2 has the best graphics available as it stands right now.
