Current gaming journalism in a nutshell: sales over quality is the determining factor for evaluation. Ugh.
And this is why Heavy Rain won 3 BAFTA awards this year (and GoW III won as well).
Not sure if I'm going to like how "talkie" Portal 2 seems to be (I liked the quiet, insular desolation of Portal 1 with only Glados around).
Still, this is at the top of my 2011 list (along with Sword and Sworcery, Last Guardian, and Journey).
EDIT: oops, and I forgot of course L.A. Noire.
Loving this game. Hard as hell sometimes, but then again this gen is a bit babying.
That's one thing about Japanese devs like Q-games (and Demons' Souls' From Software) -- they treat us like the hard core gamers we are.
Anything made by Cage and Quantic Dream has my attention.
Great that Cage isn't following tradition and making a sequel but trying a new idea. For the life of me I don't understand why so many gamers don't like him.
Funny how so many sites use PS3 exclusives (KZ3, GT5, etc.) as part of their review system.
It just goes to show that the PS3 library is a standard against which many other games get measured.
I like the question he always asks: "can you tell a story without a gun in your hand?" (Do devs even want to?). That's my kinda dev.
Jack Tretton - CEO with class.
All the more impressive considering other CEOs in gaming... (I won't name names).
I prefer the PS3 myself, but this shit has got to stop. Even NeoGaf (which I recently joined hoping for cleaner discussion) is infected with fanboys and the console war.
The only sanctuary from this endless bullshit I can really find anymore is Gamasutra.
The accents made me spit on my screen from laughter.
With Kinect's level of precision, I wouldn't trust any doctor who uses this thing.
Xbots don't have any games to discuss this year so I guess they have to resort to criticizing the PS3 library. Lame.
Audiophiles are commonly misunderstood. People will spend 1000s on a TV for the "visual experience" but ignore the "aural experience" with crap speakers/headphones.
If you're a lover of music, and you have good ears, you quickly learn to embrace quality speakers/headphones.
Plus, I'm no longer a poor student, and can afford it.
This is what I use for gaming and BD:

Used to have some Senns, but I wanted to move to a closed can. Got a good amp too (little dot): makes for aural heaven.
Good point. I've noticed that too. They have a completely disorganized system when it comes to dealing with multi-plats.
Sessler once made a joke on Feedback about Metacritic that kinda explained why G4 isn't included anymore (apparently he exchanged emails with them). But I forget why this is.
I don't trust Metacritic period. It's a SECONDARY review system. That is, they review the reviewers:
It recalculates many reviews arbitrarily such as letters to numbers (1up) and 5-scale to 10-scale systems (a 4/5 is NOT the same as an 8/10).
And then they pick and choose who to exclude (like G4) and they actually weight different websites more than others.
In a nutshell, the system is completely fucked.
Yeah, let's see somebody do this for more than 10 minutes.
Call me old-fashioned, but give me a controller or mouse/keyboard.
Yay for Heavy Rain -- at least there are some sane people out there who can understand quality and innovation.
Still playing this on PC. Great Diablo clone.
Give me Sorcery! And Child of Eden too.
