These might be the two best games released this generation.
The PSP did so well because it was easily hackable, cheaper, and had a reasonable storage solution. The Vita is none of these.
The PSP also had Monster Hunter on it, which the Vita will not have. That's a huge blow to the Vita.
Will it do ok in the future? Maybe, but Sony needs to start supporting it with first party titles. Its been over a year now and their isn't much from Sony on there.
Soul Sacrifice barely made a dent in the 3DS armor. The week SS and PSO came out, the Vita only outsold the 3DS by 2000K.
Tomodachi came out last week and the 3DS sales surged, outselling the PS Vita nearly 7:1
I hate to say it's over for the Vita, but it's over. Nintendo still has Shin Megami Tensei IV, Monster Hunter 4 and Pokemon X & Y, Link to the Past 2, Mario Golf and Party, all coming out this year.

Having a bigger install base, doesn't diminish the fact the more than Mario and Zelda sell on Nintendo platforms.
Nintendo puts out more Mario games, so of course there will be a higher sales ratio of Mario compared to a Donkey Kong or Kirby.

Nintendo does own Japan at this point.
Nintendo is selling the most hardware and software combined in Japan. The 3DS, DS, Wii, and Wii U has taken a large chunk of the market share from Sony in the PS2 days.
And the Vita is getting destroyed by the 3DS in Japan. Where as the Wii U and PS3 sales are comparable, with Sony slightly edging Nintendo by a few thousands units.
