There is absolutely no reason for it to exist. They could have just made it a cut scene, then he turns around and you gain control.
I played the game and tried to see what would happen if you didn't press the button. You just stand there and are actually forced to do the QTE event.
Edit: @TheJacksonRGN you do make a valid point, but I think at this point QTE has morphed into a rainbow term to describe any forced button prompt. Is there a more realistic...
