Microsoft had 2 companies to compete with just like Sony. Sega and Atari were out of the picture.
It was a combination of price, hardware and MS screwing up. People made fun of the Xbox because it was weaker AND more expensive.

The PS1, PS2 and Wii were the weakest of their generation and dominated the competition. This gen was the only time where the more powerful console (base PS4) won. So you think sony will suddenly stop investing in first party studios and won't price the PS5 competitively? I bet the PS5 will be more successful. It's a much a bigger brand worldwide and based on the specs, the PS5 could very well end up being the more afordable console. Plus, they have a proven track record with their first party output. MS has much more to proof next gen.

I'm not worried about the PS5 specs. Games like TLOU2, Ghost of Tsushima and God of War look great on current systems @ 1,8 and 4 TF.

16 highly rated studios? That remains to be seen. Most of them haven't even released a game yet. Sony on the other hand has a proven track record.
The PS3 was more powerful than the 360, while 360 was easier to develop for. The Xbone S is weaker than the PS4.

Windows on a console? Whats the point? Just get a PC. These consoles were more powerful but the ps2 had the biggest and most diverse library of games and that's what matters most at the end of the day.
