There won't be an issue as long as the PS5 store is up. So no, there's no chance that i'm going to lose my PS5 games in 5 years. This may become an issue in 15-20 years.
Sony Japan made some great games but none of them were commercial successes. Look at The Last Guardian. Tons of people hyped it up for years but when it came down to it, most of them didn't actually buy it. Bloodborne and Demon Souls are From Software games. Sony only helped with development. Also, don't forget, game development during the PS1 and PS2 days was much cheaper compared to what it is now. A game selling 500k back then was a success, these days it's nothing.
Yeah but remember, Playstation's doomed now because they've turned their backs on Japan and cause of a battery that may or may not die in 20-25 years.
Funny thing is. The same (IGN or Gamespot) reviewer who complained about Days Gone for having a white male lead character is now upset over Days Gone 2.
“I’m just saying, you don’t, but don’t complain if a game doesn’t get a sequel if it wasn’t supported at launch,”
I know this will piss some people off here but whatever.
Basically, if people had supported Gravity Rush when it mattered instead of just hyping it up for console wars, Japan studios would still be a thing and we would be playing Gravity Rush 3 now.
IF the battery dies and IF Sony decides to pull the plug (which won't happen anytime soon) People, just enjoy your systems right now and stop worrying about what could happen to them 10-20 years from now. Every electronic device has flaws and can stop working. That's just how it is.
I don't think he means a new genre. I bet he wants to do something like a Forza Horizon game.
I just think all of this is hyperbolic. Any device can die for many different reasons. Especially after 20 years. People should enjoy their current systems without getting upset over every little thing. Imagine buying a PS5 right now and worrying about what could happen to it in 2045.
@Lakebumsickle
You know? Thinking about what could happen with your console in 15 years is kinda pointless. This is the first time i've seen people being concerned about it.
"why many gamers prefer to go with physical copies of their games."
Not if you're into PC gaming. Once Valve decides to pull the plug, that's it but i don't see articles about it. Worrying about what could happen 20 years from now is kinda pointless anyway.
The PS2 and 3 have CMOS batteries as well. Why wasn't this brought up before?
"In 20 years when Sony takes down those servers, all PS4s will eventually become useless hunks of plastic."
The same can be said about Netflix, Gamepass, Steam or any other online service.
This applies to all online services tho. What if MS decides to pull the plug on Gamepass in 20 years? Or what if Steam isn't a thing anymore? This isn't just exclusive to Sony.
Besides, what does a CMOS battery (which is used for every PC motherboard and tons of other electronic devices) have anything to do with exclusives and content? lol.
Are we complaining about CMOS batteries now? The same kind of batteries that are in every PC motherboard and a ton of other electronic devices?
We'll see lol. Xbox doesn't do anything for me. Not a fan of their games so yeah. And Xbox pumping out exclusives while Sony keeps relying on their old stuff? Halo Infinite, Fable and Forza 8 are new experiences and totally not milked to death...Xbox has a ton to proof when it comes to exclusives. I believe it when i see it.
Hyperbole.
And the very same people are now upset over Days Gone 2, lol.

I wish people actually supported Gravity Rush.
@Chief
"PS gamers take whatever Sony put out or takes away from them"
Oh the irony.
Value is subjective. Xbox doesn't do anything for me. I don't like 90% of their games. The ones that i do like (PGR, Lost Odyssey and Jade Empire) are dead.
