When the PS3 was first announced, Sony had just spent a fortune on creating the Cell in-house, Blu-ray drives were in its beginning and cost were astronomical, and those early launch systems also include some actual PS2 hardware for BC.
The Scorpio has none of those issues and by Fall 2017, a 6TFLOP AMD GPU should be priced reasonable.

$249 will be the new Xbox One S price by then.

Once a PS console allows - buy once, play anywhere, all DLCs are cross compatible, all your Trophies/saves/gamerscores are cross sync with PC, then I can agree with you.
As of now, MS will have the only gaming ecosystem between PC and console that is truly united.

You guys are so contradicting. If Scorpio runs the same game and uses the same accessories as Xbox One, isn't that the same as how the Neo works? Just because it will come out a year after the Neo and will a 2 tflop advantage, that makes it a new gen?

Digital Founder wasn't around back in the original Xbox era. Now with social media and sites like Digital foundry to inform people of the better versions, who knows. People with common sense will say - Xbox One S is for budget gamers, Scorpio is for gamers that want higher specs and graphics fidelity, VR support and up to 4k native games. All games will be supported between the two, many options for gamers.

I rather them putting all their man power on making GTA6 instead. IV to V took forever due to the 2 additional episodic stories of GTAIV. Hoping a PC version will be released at the same time in their next installment. If not, the Scorpio will be a nice alternative to finally getting to play GTA on console closed to maximum PC specs.

That is exactly how the world of electronic works.
The price here is UK price which was never £499, including Kinect, to begin with. The US price is $299 compared to $399 without Kinect from a couple years ago when the stand alone model was first introduced.
So really it is just a $100 price reduction in three years. PS3 had a $100 reduction in its first year and dropped $200 off by its third year for comparison.
