I try not to look through the trophy list on my first play through, I just get what I get. But I do replay games/sections and do stuff I may otherwise have not done to get trophies after that play through. It gives me an extra reason to repeat it or try new things, which I like.
...because they COULD care less but don't care so much that caring less would mean they care enough to care less?
Skill based stuff are cool but the grinding/online stuff is what keep you in the game longer. From a dev/publisher standpoint, its really the kind of trophies that will keep people playing their games and which extend playtime.
Both have a point, but the former is definitely more fun to get than the latter (although finally getting them feels freakin badass).
He contradicts himself completely in this article... first of all, if they are pointless/worthless, he would have to show that they really do have no worth to the gamer or devs/publishers. But when I choose to play a PS3/360 game for these "worthless" things because I enjoy that hunt, and end up ignoring my DS, Wii, or PSP games, it means that I am getting more out of the experience; and by me getting addicted to these little rewards, I don't sell games back as quickly or at all, an...
I love this game.
If it copied Chains of Olympus as well as the console versions copied the console versions of GOW, then it would be worth a spin. That was the best hack-n-slash PSP game ever.
From what I can find, it sounds like a much more "social" version of Steam, meaning that users can comment/rate games on their store pages, that the Devs will have the ability to design their own storefronts, and that the makers/devs will probably be the ones in charge of all pricing/sales/etc.
But there isn't much info about it online yet. So it could change as it gets closer to release.
I'd like to see Steam be even more welcoming to indie games and give them a bit more wiggle-room to make their stores how they want (as this seems to be doing)... but I kinda doubt it will happen. I love Steam, but with all the huge supporters behind it now, it doesn't need to go out of its way for the indies. It can make them do a bit extra to come to them.
Agreed. There are far too many zombie obsessed gamers out there. Get over it.
I agree. I mess with guitar when I have downtime (and have for years), so something that takes that into an actual videogame would be huge for me.
I'm right there with ya.
If that's true, then I will love it. MM9 was a bit too "cheap" feeling for me to grind through it. I enjoy that try, die, repeat to a certain extent... but when it takes 30 lives to get through a single level, I'm quitting.
I don't know why Mega Man has such staying power, but I know I'll be picking up this retro gem asap.
I'd prefer they focused on fixing the glitch that made me have to restart the freaking single player campaign. I was over halfway done with the damn game and don't appreciate restarting the whole damn thing.
I would replay all those games if Trophies were added. They're all good enough for a replay as is... but god. I'd jump on that asap with Trophies added.
I agree... but when he strayed to the point of digital downloads and cloud computing I think it raises a good point. I love seeing the cases on my shelf, standing proud like trophies of my awesome accomplishments. Having a list on the tv instead of that physical thing is very different and feels much more distant/empty in a sense.
But that could be my materialism talking...
I can't wait until everything is wireless. But I like the overall theme of how it makes our gaming/tech much more disconnected/distant from us in a physical way. Interesting idea...
Agreed.
Excellent, excellent article. I've been thinking along the same lines for quite a while now. Thanks for writing it up in such a focused way.
I remember wasting a ton of time in this game as a kid... can't wait to do so again now that I'm an adult. :D
