it's hard for me to believe nearly every american, or at the very least every serious gamer doesn't have a 1080p tv 4yrs after the switch to digital. i'm actually looking at a resent walmart paper that's advertising 2 1080p hdtv's(32in-47in) for between $300-$500, and 1 720p hdtv(32in) for as low as $200. i think anyone who ever wanted a hdtv has one by now.
people say they don't care now, but they'll care when nintendo is the first to have there games running in 4k resolution 60 frames per second, and sony & microsoft choose to run their games at 2k to get pretter graphics. it's 2013 & the majority of americans have 1080p tv's, it is standard now, and everyone knows that a lower resolution picture on a higher resolution tv looks like crap. higher frame rates mean smooth graphics& less jaggies.
the one & only reason a lot of ps4 & xbox one games aren't running in native 1080p 60fps is because sony & microsoft care more about graphics than resolution & frame rate. they are choosing to max out the gpu for higher graphics instead of just pushing the gpu as far as possible without lower the resolution , or frame rate.
it seems impossible now, but who knows, in 3yrs people could be arguing on n4g about how we now have proof that nintendo wii u owners beat ps4 owners at COD 70% of the time, or ps4 owners beat xboxONE owners at madden 70% of the time, or xboxONE owners beat ps4 owners at street fighter V.
just imagine what this could be down the line in a couple of years. you could see wii u/xbox one/ps4 owners fighting each other in street fighter V, mortal kombat, or some other third party game.
the last 11 years say otherwise. tetsuya nomura does great work with the kingdom hearts series but, he's just one man. he can't be expected to shepherd the final fantasy and kingdom hearts franchise by himself.

This why all console should support external HDD's. you could hook up a 1tb-3tb desktop HDD w/usb 3.0 for future proofing & and never think about HDD space again, and all that for $100, or less.

The only reason nintendo can't focus on creating new ip's is because of horrible 3rd party support. nintendo doesn't have the luxury of creating new first party games that might not sell there system. unlike sony& microsoft, nintendo can't fall back on the blind faith of 3rd party developers & a steady stream of games until they release the there first party titles.
if nintendo did build systems like sony & microsoft they would not be able to sell them at a massive loss.
